2011 NBA Mock Draft: Timberwolves Go Big with Jordan Williams at No. 20

Wolves Continue to go Long and Athletic, Take Jordan Williams in First Round

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been a work in progress ever since they made the decision to trade Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics.

After a number of disappointing seasons the team’s fanbase is getting anxious. The team clearly needs a replacement that can be the superstar that Garnett was in Minnesota.

Analysis:

Jordan Williams comes from the mold that so many young players find themselves growing from. He’s a large, physical presence that dominates games on both the offensive and defensive end.

The main issue that Williams has had during his time at Maryland have been related to his conditioning. He has the frame of a player that can become a dominant force in the league but if he has trouble staying conditioned in the college game, he may be in for a rude awakening when the NBA comes calling.

Pro Comparison: Carlos Boozer

Williams and Boozer are both strong figures that have the ability to stop penetration on the defensive end, and score at will from inside. Boozer averages nearly a double double each game, much like Williams has the potential to do.

Whether or not it’s because of their basketball IQ or just the nature of the game, Boozer and Williams both commit an above average number of turnovers.
