Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has declared that Alexander Buttner and Angelo Henriquez will be the last of the club's summer signings. GettyImagesSir Alex Ferguson has rounded off his summer business with the signings of Alex Buttner and Angelo Henriquez Henriquez, the 18-year-old Chilean striker, will finalise his move to Old Trafford over the next couple of days. He will link up with Shinji Kagawa, Nick Powell, Robin van Persie and Buttner, the Red Devils' other recruits this summer. "We definitely won't be buying anyone else," Ferguson said. "There is no movement about anyone going the other way." Meanwhile, Ferguson has lifted the lid on the details of, and history to, Henriquez's switch from Universidad de Chile. Football Update
A tired one
Some people have, over the last little while, expressed the notion that I shouldn't write anything more about Barcelona and their wicked pursuit of Cesc Fabregas. Which I understand. This is an Arsenal blog after all, but the reality is that if I didn't, there would be quite literally nothing to talk about. And so it is this morning. I'm ignoring all of it and concentrating on just Arsenal news. So here we go. Any minute now. Coming right up. Just gonna kick it off in a second. Trying to figure out which bit to put first. Erm ... So there you go. Quite something, eh? The only real story of note is that we're battling Sp*rs for the signing of a 17 year old Ipswich striker called
Fletch: I Never Want To Leave United
Darren Fletcher has again spoke highly of his club, claiming that anywhere after United is a step down. “You look at it as a step down if you leave,” said Fletch. “If you’re lucky enough to stay, you’ll have played at the top for your whole career and it doesn’t get much bigger than Manchester United. Players who left say, ‘think twice before you leave, because there’s nowhere like Manchester United. Everything about the club makes it the place you want to be. No-one really thinks about leaving when you’re here. Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are almost like urban legends. They’re fantastic role models for younger players like me to have.” With David Beckham and Thierry Henry already making the move
A small World Cup gallery of football hotty, Sara Carbonero
Sara… with boyfriend lurking in the background Here at The Spoiler, we know our place. The Spoiler is a niche site, comfortable like an old friend, yet still a fresh, vital and exciting hub of activity for those in the know. But, when put up against big hitters like the BBC, or Yahoo!, The Spoiler will always come second. They’re the big guns. The Chuck Norris of the internet, if you will. Except, that is, when it comes to the beautiful Spanish sports presenter, Sara Carbonero. (more…)
Chelsea Taking Hard-Line Over Shamed Player?
For any of you who regularly read TheChelseaBlog, you’ll know my feelings on the whole Adrian Mutu saga. In a nutshell, the bloke didn’t fulfil the terms of his contract with us – because he was too busy shoving half a ton of Bolivian marching powder up his nostrils. Rather than say he’s sorry though, when the club justifiably kick him into touch, he does his international playboy bit for a while, finds himself another club to pick up his career with then whinges like a bitch in his newfound role as the poor little victim. Yes, big bad Chelsea had the audacity to be pissed off that a player should put recreational drug use ahead of a professional footballing
Soundoff: Teams of the Tournament
Going over the “best team of the tournament” is always difficult since some really good players play for some inferior teams, and thus don’t get to strut their stuff late into the tournament, when most have already forgotten about them. So we’ve solved the problem: one XI with those who’ve received maximum exposure – semifinal teams only – and one best XI of those dumped out in the quarterfinals or earlier. Simple in theory, but agonizing in reality, as ever. We’ve used the 4-2-3-1 since it was the predominant formation in this World Cup and has been much fancied in the domestic game for some time now, so we’re happy enough to follow the crowd. And others are doing it too
Ozil´s goal against Sevilla
MESUT OZIL´S GOAL NINE MINUTES FROM TIME ON WEDNESDAY, BROKE SEVILLA´S RESISTANCE AND EFFECTIVELY PUT REAL MADRID INTO THE COPA DEL REY FINAL.
