Theo Epstein Pulls Curtain Back On Failed Alex Rodriguez-To-Red Sox Trade
Share this: The Boston Red Sox, as it turns out, didn’t need Alex Rodriguez to win the 2004 World Series and end 86 years of heartbreak. But when a player of that caliber comes that close to joining your team, it’s impossible not to wonder, “what if?” It’s now well-known that the Red Sox nearly landed Rodriguez in a 2003 blockbuster trade involving the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox. In fact, the then-superstar shortstop was ready to sign with Boston before the Major League Baseball Players’ Association vetoed the deal, leading A-Rod to turn around and sign with the New York Yankees. It’s one of the most fascinating stories in sports, and Theo Epstein made it all the more compelling Sunday. The former
Patriots’ Super Bowl Trophy Survives Scary Run-In With Deer In Maine
Share this: It’s been a treacherous few weeks for Super Bowl LI artifacts. First, we had the curious case of Tom Brady’s missing jersey, which finally was recovered after an extensive search. Now, it appears the New England Patriots’ Lombardi Trophy was in peril over the weekend. According to Maine State Police, a car carrying the Super Bowl trophy struck a deer in Fairfield, Maine, on Friday night. Fortunately, the Patriots employee driving the car and his wife emerged from the crash unscathed — as did their precious cargo. What a relief. According to the Facebook post, the employee was taking the trophy to Bangor for a photo opportunity with fans at the Cross Insurance Center. The harware will be back in Boston on Monday for
Eric Gagne Reportedly Discussing Minor-League Deal With Dodgers
Share this: For all the laughs over 41-year-old Eric Gagne pitching in the World Baseball Classic, it appears that the former All-Star closer might get the last laugh. According to Sporsnet.ca’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Gagne has been discussing a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers among other teams. Eric Gagne said he's talking minor-lg deal with #Dodgers. 2 other teams “really interested, but right now I’m really focused on the Dodgers” — Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) April 1, 2017 Gagne hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2008, but he was much better than expected while pitching for Canada in the World Baseball Classic. The Dodgers have little to lose by giving Gagne a minor-league pact as the worst case scenario is that he is released

Should Patriots Kick The Tires On Dion Jordan After Release From Dolphins?
Share this: Once upon a time, Dion Jordan seemed like the kind of player Bill Belichick could only dream of having on his New England Patriots. Jordan, who once was rumored to be selected first overall in the 2013 draft, was 6-foot-6, 248 pounds when coming out of Oregon and seemed to have the length to rush the passer from the edge and the athleticism to drop back into coverage. It’s why he was picked third overall by the Miami Dolphins despite undergoing shoulder surgery months before the draft. The Patriots even brought him in for an official visit before the draft that year while knowing there was little to no chance they could take him. Needless to say, the Dolphins probably would like to have the
Leon Powe Wants Ray Allen At ’08 Celtics Reunion: ‘We’ve Got To Get Over This’
Share this: As much as Boston Celtics fans might not want to admit it, it’s unlikely the team would have won the 2007-08 NBA Finals without Ray Allen. And one of his former teammates agrees. Former Celtics guard Rajon Rondo revealed recently that he was organizing a reunion with the team this summer, but he openly admitted Allen wasn’t invited. Rondo and Allen, in particular, didn’t get along before the shooting guard jumped ship for the Miami Heat, and the move only made things worse. But Leon Powe, who was a key member of the Celtics’ bench that season, thinks the whole issue is ridiculous. “Ray needs an invitation,” Powe said on CSNNE’s “Celtics Talk” podcast Friday. “I don’t care who says he don’t.
