The Red Sox officially announced Sunday they have optioned Johnson to Triple-A Pawtucket, promoting right-hander Blaine Boyer to take his place on the 25-man roster. The move was expected, as Johnson only was called up to make a spot start as the fifth man in Boston’s rotation. But what a start it was, as the 26-year-old hurled a complete-game shutout against the Seattle Mariners to lead the Sox to a 6-0 win. Boyer will make his first appearance on Boston’s major league roster since signing a minor league deal with the club on Opening Day. The 35-year-old veteran

Yard Goats Batter Goes Down ‘Swinging’ On Worst Strikeout You’ll Ever See
Share this: We’ve all seen batters swing at bad pitches. It’s part of baseball. But poor Josh Fuentes redefined the art of the bad strikeout Friday. Fuentes, third baseman for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats, faced a two-strike count in the eighth inning against Binghamton Rumble Ponies hurler Cory Burns. On the ensuing pitch, Burns appeared to mess up or halt his delivery, half-heartedly throwing the ball into the ground about five feet in front of him. Figuring a timeout was called and the play was dead, Fuentes offered a similarly half-hearted swing as a joke. Alas, timeout was not called. The umpire never blew the play dead, meaning that Fuentes had swung at strike three — a pitch that hit the grass about 50 feet away. The catcher
NFLPA Tells Incoming Rookies To Be Like Rob Gronkowski, And Here’s Why
Share this: When it comes to branding, Rob Gronkowski knows what he’s doing. The New England Patriots tight end obviously is a star on the football field, but he’s also one off it with the way he markets himself. And that’s a lesson the NFL Players Association hopes other players will learn from, especially rookies. The NFLPA recently held the Player Premiere in Los Angeles, where rookies received advice from former NFL players about how to build their brand. And Gronk was used as one of the top examples. “Some people think he’s just this extension of a frat boy, and that it’s sort of accidental,” NFL Players Inc. president Ahmad Nassar said, via The Boston Glove Ben Volin. “And that’s wrong. It’s not accidental,
Josh Norman Predicts ‘Bad Blood,’ Rips Odell Beckham Jr., Dez Bryant
Share this: There could be some fireworks in the NFC East during the 2017 NFL season. Josh Norman has had his battles with star receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Dez Bryant, but the Washington Redskins cornerback believes the upcoming season could be a whole different story. “Trust me when I tell you, it’s going to be bad blood this year,” Norman told Bleacher Report’s Tyler Dunne. “You think the NFC East didn’t like each other before? This year right here? There’s going to be a lot of fines and maybe some suspensions. “I’m going to be honest with you: This s— is going to get really ugly. Because I do have a safety (D.J. Swearinger) that don’t give a f— and I definitely don’t. And
Red Sox Teammates Praise Brian Johnson Following Complete-Game Shutout
Share this: Saturday was quite the day at the ballpark for Brian Johnson. The left-hander was called up to the big leagues by the Boston Red Sox for a spot start at Fenway Park, and he delivered a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. Johnson already was sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for the returning David Price, but he went out with some very nice, encouraging words from his Red Sox teammates.
