After a short break, it's time for Cincinnati After Best of Belgium we left for the United States immediately. It was nice to see the family again. This first holiday didn't last long though, as we had to go over to New York soon to play games for the WTT over there. After that short period of resting without my racket at hand, I had to get adjusted again. That's why I was quite nervous. As the 'star' of the team they expect you to actually win games there. I had to, or better said, I had the opportunity to play doubles with John McEnroe. It was my first time on the court with him, but it was great! It was all very

A Lightning Rod, Well Grounded
by Pete BodoHowdy, everyone. I wasn't able to focus on the news out of the Rogers Cup in Toronto yesterday, because I had date to interview and hit some balls with one of the most controversial political pundits in the nation, Sean Hannity. You may know his eponymous show on Fox News Channel, but long before he became a lightning rod on television, he was a pioneer in that medium that has helped shape and transform the national political landscape, talk radio. Some of my own friends, who as a group span the entire political and socio-economic spectrum, were dismayed to learn that I would hobnob with Hannity, but that's alright - everyone has a right to be
Blogging Advisory
Greetings, everyone. Sorry for the radio silence on a day marked by plenty of newsworthy items. I was out of the office since early this morning, visiting with a well-known, controversial figure in the media and political arenas. I'll have a red meat post up on that excursion tomorrow. Please use this post for your discussion of this evening's events in Cincinnati and Toronto, and keep the conversation going here tomorrow until I post on the news now pouring out of the aforementioned cities. I see it was a tough day for Melanie Oudin, of whom much will be expected in the upcoming U.S. Open. Keep the faith, Melanie.- Pete
Failure’s No Success at All
Yesterday afternoon I left you from a Rogers Cup site that looked something like an oversized soup bowl. Against all odds, though, the water dried and the players were dragged bleary-eyed from their hiding places in the lounge, handed racquets and balls, and forced to run around under the lights. You know how on Monday I listed all the reasons I could never be a pro? Chalk this up as another: Having to start your match five hours after you had originally prepared your mind and body to play it. In those kinds of cases, whether it's tennis or some other nerve-wracking activity, there typically comes a point when I just say: I don’t care what happens, I just want it to be over. That
Cue Beethoven

I'll be continuing the News of the Day posts here through the rest of the week. Tomorrow I'm going to visit with a tennis nut who also happens to be one of the most controversial figures on the American political landscape, but I'm not telling who. You'll have to come back to find out.I will be out of the office all of next week (Aug. 16th

Game, Set, Matrimony
by Pete BodoAfternoon, everyone. I've been out of touch most of the weekend, but I seek our Social Director Jackie-Oh! has hosted the Deuce Club weekend party with her usual flair. I thought I'd drop by to let you know I'll be attending that fierce intra-Gotham World Team Tennis clash between the New York Sportimes and New York Buzz tomorrow evening. The player roster includesJohn McEnroe, Martina Hingis and Kim Clijsters. I'm really curious to see the new Randall's Island Sportime facility, not least because it's be the site of McEnroe's nascent tennis academy.I'll have a post on that, as well as some thoughts on the differences between tennis and Major League Baseball as a spectator-fan experience, over
