Decent, don’t let it hit pavement,
This is a good ball in the grass/infield, but just a pavement hit or two seemed to really eat the cover. It’s inevitable that a ball hits the concrete or street once in a while when you’re playing catch and this one’s cover seemed to get beat up faster than some others. But keep it in the grass and it does great.
Nice Balls,
We purchased these balls to use for our team’s batting practice, both on the field and in the batting cage, with a pitching machine. They have held up rather well despite getting pounded onto the cement floor and into the wooden frame structure inside the cage during practice. Bottom Line: good balls at a good price.
Fine baseballs at a reasonable price,
I have been playing baseball since the last ice age, and I’m pretty picky about my equipment. I am very pleased with these balls (Rawlings ROLB1X). I purchased one dozen from an Amazon seller/merchant (about 2 bucks per ball + reasonable shipping cost). They are ideal for practice balls, but actually they would even be fine for game balls for economically challenged organizations below high school level.
Rawlings makes the best baseballs in the world, and of course they make the balls used by MLB. The problem is that high quality baseballs are quite expensive. MLB spec baseballs go for about $13+/ball. The ROLB1X balls are a great solution. They are the same official size and weight of an MLB ball; but most importantly they have nearly the same feel and performance. Here are the major differences between the ROLB1X and the top of the line MLB ball. ROLB1X has polypropylene & “polycotton” windings, composite cork & rubber center, and slightly raised seams -VS- mostly wool windings, cushioned cork, and flat or nearly flat seams.
As mentioned, the ROLB1X seams are slightly raised. I prefer flat seams myself, as I wish to use balls nearest to MLB specs as possible. Flat seams are also best, or may be required, for use in pitching machines. However; raised seams can provide better grip for small hands or children, are usually less expensive, and will have more “movement” in the air due to reduced aerodynamics/increased air resistance.
The ROLB1X is a “blemished” version of the ROLB1; but the blemishes are not readily apparent. The ROLB1 is only a few dollars more per dozen if you are concerned about blemishes.
The ROLB1X’s performed nicely. They haven’t dented nor do they feel mushy. The best quality test is how they feel, sound, and travel when hit with a wood bat – they passed this test with flying colors (I love that sound). I can’t comment yet on the durability as I have only used them for one practice session thus far; but I expect they will be fine, as I have several dozen of similar quality Rawlings balls used for practice, that have held up very very well. I will update this review for durability after more use.
Also note; these balls have leather covers like a MLB ball. I have never used synthetic covers, but I know they are slippery and generally get poor reviews for durability.
If these balls don’t meet your specs, Rawlings makes literally dozens of different baseballs, but many are not readily available at retailers. The ROLB1X’s seem to be prevalent, and at an attractive price.
Finally; you can also buy 36 of these balls in a five gallon bucket for around $80-90. You could save some money by buying three dozen balls and your own bucket separately; but you do get a cushion on the top of the Rawlings bucket for luxurious seating.
Great Goal for the price!,
I looked everywhere for a goal of this quality and size and the cost was outragous. Thank God for AMAZON. I used this goal twice a week for 8 weeks (16 practices) and it help up very well. Actually i never broke it down. Put it in the back of my truck and hauled it intact for all those practices. I just finished using it and it broke down ok and the net was in perfect shape. I coach 12yo girls and they kicked the heck out of the ball into it and it held up. I recomend this goal. Thank you
Perfect Goal for under a Grant a Piece.,
I purchased 2 of these goals for recreational play.
I play 2x a week with a group of 10-15 adults.
I upgraded from PUGG 6 Footer Portable Training Goal Boxed Set (Two Goals & Bag)
The PUGG Goals are great, 10 seconds to put up to play, and they fold up nicely.
Then why the upgrade?
Pros:
1) Size. Its much more fun to take shots at goal, when there is a decent sized target to take aim at.
2) Sturdy goal. A full grown adults take shots at this goal, and the ball bounces back from the Post.
3) Playing a game of soccer with REAL goals, instead of just cones. A completely different game compared to when playing with Cones or PUGG goals.
Cons:
1) Assembly ( takes about 3 minutes to put up the frame, and 2 minutes to put the net up.
2) Dis-assembly – same as above
3) No Carry Bag Included. I purchased a separate 42″x25″ Bag to house the goals in.
4) WEIGHT.. They are 25LBS EACH. So a total of 50lbs to be carried to and from car.
5) Size. Takes a a Decent amount of space in my trunk.
Overall VERY satisfied with the Build quality, especially for the low price.
The boxes that came with the goals, got rained on in the first game we played.
The boxes are cardboard and got ruined. I purchased the following Duffle bag:
Side Zipper Canvas Duffle Bags
One 42×25″ Bag holds both goals, nets, and a ball with room to spare.
I have uploaded pictures of everything I thought was valuable information.
Leave a comment if you want more pictures or have any other questions.
FYI Current Amazon Price, which is the lowest I have seen for these goal is $[…]EACH.
