Kendrick Perkins is a popular guy.
Not only was Perkins beloved during his seven-plus seasons with the Boston Celtics. But he also formed such a good friendship with Kevin Durant during their time together with the Oklahoma City Thunder that Durant considers Perkins to be his favorite teammate ever.
“He would call me after every game, and we’d be on the phone until probably 2 o’clock in the morning. And it’d be a bunch of nothing he’ll be talking to me about,” Durant said during a recent interview with Bill Simmons. “And it was just like, man, that’s my big brother right there. He’s going through something, and he’s calling me. So, I miss those convos.”
The Thunder traded Perkins to the Utah Jazz during the 2014-15 season. He subsequently was waived and signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The veteran center spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Simmons suggested that Perkins should consider running for president given his popularity. If he did, he’d probably receive Durant’s vote.
“He’s the greatest,” Durant said of Perkins. “Everybody loves him.”
Maybe the Golden State Warriors can facilitate a reunion. Perkins currently is a free agent.
