Matt Barkley Taking Page From Tom Brady’s Playbook To Stay Warm In Chicago

Sunday’s Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers is expected to be one of the coldest in Soldier Field history, and Bears quarterback Matt Barkley is using a unique method to stay warm.

Barkley told ESPN’s Michelle Steele and NFL Media’s Stacey Dales he plans to wear a wetsuit — similar to the ones triathletes wear — under his shoulder pads in an effort to combat the sub-freezing temperatures in Chicago.

The QB said he picked up the idea from former teammate Matt Cassel. How’d Cassel learn about it? From the man he used to back up in New England — Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Here’s how the interesting undergarment looked on Barkley during pregame warmups:

The forecast in Chicago called for a game-time temperature of 5 degrees with a wind chill of negative-10.

Brady and the Patriots will play a cold-weather game of their own later in the day, with temperatures in the 20s expected for their matchup with the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field.
