NBA Draft 2011: Jimmer Fredette Interview and Will He End Up in Utah?

Jimmer Fredette is an extraordinarily good shooter. But that is not all, he says.

Check out this interview with TrueHoop’s Henry Abbot.

Some quick thoughts about the interview:

1) Iman Shumpert is not an overrated defender. Jimmer said he’s the toughest he faced.

2) Jimmer, like all of us, still has no clue where he is going to end up.

3) Jimmer doesn’t believe that NBA workouts are really good indicators of NBA readiness.

4) Kobe or Wade? Fredette chose Kobe and his 5 rings. Good choice.

5) Wherever he goes, he’s going to be a model citizen. No entourages or Bentleys for him.

The second part of this whole situation is this extremely interesting tidbit from ESPN’s Andy Katz:

Utah general manager Kevin O’Connor relayed to Jimmer Fredette’s camp Thursday that the Jazz are “terribly divided” on Fredette and whether to select him at No. 12, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Again, I ask, what would you do? The fans want Jimmer, but they also want to win. If Kemba Walker is available, despite the initial backlash, Utah should take him and know that they got the more well rounded player.

It really is unfair for people to ask so much of Jimmer. He is not Kemba Walker. He is not close. He can score, but he is going to need time to evolve into an NBA player, as opposed to an NCAA bomber. Jimmer should go to Phoenix or Indiana, and he will thrive. Don’t expect him to be an all-star right away though!
