Share this: The Clayton Kershaw that entered Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs with a 7.23 ERA in his NLCS career certainly didn’t show up to Wrigley Field on Sunday. The Los Angeles Dodgers ace two-hit the Cubs over seven innings and struck out six before closer Kenley Jansen finished off the final two innings for a 1-0 Dodgers win. The series now is tied at one game apiece. Kershaw retired the first 14 batters he faced before Cubs infielder Javier Baez singled to left with two outs in the fifth inning. Rookie catcher Willson Contreras followed Baez with another single, but a Jason Heyward popout ended the threat. The Dodgers had just three hits of their own, but

Javier Baez Sends Cubs Home Winners In NLDS Game 1 With Winning Home Run
Share this: Maybe that even-year magic has run out. Instead, the Chicago Cubs were the ones who got the last laugh Friday in their National League Division Series Game 1 win over the San Francisco Giants. Javier Baez sent the Cubs home with a 1-0 win thanks to a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. As a result, Chicago now has a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five-game series. Despite Baez’s homer, the real story was the pitching in this one. Jon Lester threw an absolute gem for the Cubs, shutting out the Giants over eight innings. He only allowed five hits and struck out five. Johnny Cueto was the tough-luck loser, but he still went the distance and allowed only three hits
Even-Year Giants Strike Again With Conor Gillaspie’s Three-Run Home Run
Share this: The even-year magic already is in full force for the San Francisco Giants. The Giants, who have won the last three World Series in even years, beat the New York Mets 3-0 on Wednesday in the National League Wild Card Game thanks to a likely and unlikely hero. Madison Bumgarner continued his postseason dominance with a complete-game shutout of the Mets. He allowed only four hits and two walks while striking out six. He’s the likely hero, but the same can’t be said for Giants third baseman Conor Gillaspie, whose three-run home run in the top of the ninth was the difference. Gillaspie only had six homers during the regular season, but there was no doubt about his ninth-inning blast Wednesday. And now we get

Is That Theo Epstein? Cubs Exec Goes Undercover In Wrigley Field Bleachers
Share this: A mustachioed man was spotted in the Wrigley Field bleachers Friday taking in a Chicago Cubs game. But this wasn’t just any mustachioed man. The incognito fan watching the Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers actually was a very poorly disguised Theo Epstein, the team’s president of baseball operations, who after the Cubs clinched the National League Central crown decided to celebrate by watching the game like everybody else. Epstein’s getup didn’t fool anyone, of course, leading to several hilarious photos of the former Boston Red Sox GM and his “disguise.” We’re not sure if Epstein ended up eating that hot dog, but we do know that Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer joined him out in the bleachers in what Epstein said might become
