Bills GM Doug Whaley Doesn’t Know Why Rex Ryan Was Fired After Two Seasons

Share this: The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Rex Ryan after two largely unsuccessful seasons, but general manager Doug Whaley doesn’t know why the club parted ways with the outspoken head coach. That’s not rhetorical. He seriously doesn’t know. Whaley admitted as much Monday at a very awkward year-end news conference. “We had just finished our weekly phone conversation with (Bills owner Terry Pegula) — myself and Rex,” Whaley explained, recalling the circumstances around Ryan’s firing. “Rex asked to speak with (Pegula) privately. After that, I was informed that Rex would no longer be our coach. I wasn’t privy to the conversation so I cannot get into those details.” One reporter pressed Whaley further, with the reporter citing his own reporting that Buffalo made the

Boston Red Sox Still Have Solid Core, Aren’t Going Anywhere In 2017

Share this: BOSTON — The Red Sox’s 2016 season ended with a thud after they were swept by the Cleveland Indians in the American League Division Series, but they’re still going to be a team to look out for in 2017. Boston exceeded the expectations of many when they ran away with the AL East and finished with a 93-69 record, but it didn’t look like a one-year fluke. The Red Sox’s offense was legitimately dominant, and there’s no reason to believe they can’t come back and do it again next year. “I’ve not thought anything beyond (Monday’s) game,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said after Boston’s 4-3 loss to the Tribe. “And that’s the approach I take every day, through 162 games and through

American Pole Vaulter Halts Attempt When Star-Spangled Banners Starts Playing

Share this: Sam Kendricks, a second lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve, was competing in the pole vault last week when midway through one of his attempts, the star-spangled banner from a medal ceremony happening on the other side of the stadium started playing. In a show of patriotism for his country and respect for his fellow athletes, Kendricks stopped competing once he heard the national anthem. He put his hand over his heart and didn’t resume his attempt until the anthem finished. Kendricks finished third in the men’s pole vault final, earning himself a bronze medal. It was Team USA’s first pole vaulting medal at the Olympics in 12 years. Thumbnail photo via Eric Seals/USA TODAY Sports Images More Stories Source link

Fabiański and Poland not finished yet

How do you celebrate your team's first qualification for a UEFA European Championship knockout stage? If you are Poland goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański, you do it by plotting new targets. Adam Nawałka's side made history by reaching the last 16 with a 1-0 victory in Marseille on Tuesday, taking their Group C total to seven points and just missing out on top spot on goal difference alone. Next up are Switzerland in Saint-Etienne on Saturday, and Fabiański sees no reason why Poland cannot improve on their performances so far. "I'm very happy that for the first time in our history we've advanced to the next phase," h...
