Share this: FOXBORO, Mass. — If Chris Hogan had signed anywhere else this offseason, the acquisition would have been met with relative indifference. But because Bill Belichick saw something in the unheralded receiver, the restricted free-agent acquisition became intriguing. So far, Hogan’s time with the Patriots has been a success. He had a career year, catching 38 passes for 680 yards with four touchdowns and led the NFL with 17.9 yards per reception. He was one of quarterback Tom Brady’s go-to receivers Saturday night in the Patriots’ 34-16 divisional-round win over the Houston Texans when he caught four passes on four targets for 95 yards before leaving the game with a thigh injury. Gaining trust in Brady is key for a Patriots receiver. “Tom’s extremely approachable,” Hogan

Western Kentucky Gets Tricky, Runs Fake Kneel Down In Boca Raton Bowl
Share this: College football bowl season always is filled with trick plays and wild endings. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers delivered an innovative play call Tuesday in the Boca Raton Bowl against Memphis. The Hilltoppers were up by 11 with under a minute to play in the first half, so they lined up to take a knee and head to the locker room. At least that’s what Memphis thought. Western Kentucky snapped the ball to quarterback Mike White, who handed it off running back Anthony Wales. Wales waited for a second, playing out the fake before taking off over the left side for a 53-yard gain. Pretty nifty play call by coordinator Bryan Ellis. The ‘Toppers won 51-31. What else is happening in European football?
Mertens motoring at NapoliChristmas seems to be coming at the wrong time for Dries Mertens, scorer of seven goals in Napoli's last two games, including four in Sunday's 5-3 defeat of Torino – the first three constituted Serie A's fifth fastest hat-trick. "I still have to understand what I did," said Mertens, who scored four and set up three in this autumn's UEFA Champions League group stage. His fourth against Torino, a wonderful lob, drew comparisons with a notable Napoli old boy. "Maradona?" said the 29-year-old. "I think I have a way to go yet ..."Marseille and the power of suggestionHypnosis apparently helped French striker André-P... UEFA.com - News
Tom Brady Explains Special Bond He Shares With Rival Peyton Manning
Share this: Tom Brady and Peyton Manning battled on the field for more than a decade, but despite the rivalry, the two remain close friends. In his weekly Monday night interview with Jim Gray on Westwood One Radio, Brady explained how the two legendary quarterbacks are able to put their on-the-field history aside and maintain a friendship. “He wanted to beat the heck out of me as Tom Brady the football player and that’s very different as Tom Brady the person,” Brady told Gray. “When you’re wearing that opposing jersey, it’s just the way it goes. But postgame, and when you’re not wearing that jersey, it’s a whole different set of circumstances. It’s nice to have someone that can relate to a lot of similar
Seahawks Punter Loses Ball, Gets Crushed, Fumbles On Bizarre Trick Play
Share this: Punters are not supposed to take the kind of punishment Seattle Seahawks punter Jon Ryan took in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Ryan took off on a fake punt and had acres of open space ahead of him. Near the end of Ryan’s run, he began to lose control of the ball, and right as he maintained a firm grip again he was crushed by a Rams player. It was ruled a fumble and the Rams recovered, but the play was reviewed and Seattle maintained possession of the football. Ryan immediately was placed into the concussion protocol. At least he has the following stat to be proud of. Jon Ryan’s longest run of the year is nine
Bill Belichick Won’t Commit To Keeping Cyrus Jones At Punt Returner
by Zack Cox on Tue, Dec 13, 2016 at 12:10PM 1,627 Share this: Bill Belichick’s Tuesday morning conference call began with a series of questions about New England Patriots rookie Cyrus Jones, who’d committed another costly special-teams error the previous night. Jones allowed a punt to bounce off his foot during Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and then failed to recover it, giving Baltimore the ball at New England’s 2-yard line. The Ravens scored two plays later, kicking off a second-half comeback that ultimately fell just short in a 30-23 Patriots victory at Gillette Stadium. It was the latest in a long line of mistakes by Jones, who now has five fumbles in nine games as a first-year pro. During the call, Belichick
Did NBC’s Camera Wire Cost Raiders Potential Big Play Late In Game Vs. Chiefs?
Share this: Derek Carr and the Oakland Raiders didn’t play a very good football game Thursday night, especially on the offensive side of the ball. But upon further review, it appears they may also had a little bit of tough luck. The Raiders lost a pivotal AFC West matchup to the Chiefs 21-13 in what was one of the worst games of Carr’s career. The Oakland QB somehow threw for just 117 passing yards on 41 passing attempts, which seems almost impossible. However, it could have been at least a few more yards and one more completion had it not been for a wire. Replays certainly seem to support a theory that a fourth-quarter pass intended for Amari Cooper actually hit the camera
