One of the signature sporting venues in the United States, the 2 1/2-mile oval at IMS is steeped in rich IndyCar tradition, but also hosts one of the most exciting races on the NASCAR calendar. Kyle Busch has to be the favorite Sunday, as he’s won the last two races at IMS. He’ll face a stiff challenge from Jimmie Johnson, though, who has a series-high four wins at the track. Danica Patrick, Kevin Harvick Explain What Makes Brickyard 400 Special
Share this: Although the Daytona 500 is the biggest Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race of the year, drivers arguably get just as excited for the Brickyard 400. And it’s easy to see why. Here’s a slo-mo version of Hinchcliffe’s bird: Personally, we just can’t wait until the real fireworks start at IMS in two weeks, when Fernando Alonso makes his bid for the Indianapolis 500. But before he laps the Indianpolis Motor Speedway in real anger, the two-time Formula One world champion will take part in a test Wednesday on the 2 1/2-mile oval. Alonso and McLaren-Honda have dominated the motorsport news cycle since announcing the Spaniard would drive for Andretti Autosport in the 101st running of the Indy 500, and skip the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. The decision, which stemmed from an offhand joke by McLaren CEO Zak Brown, has been met with mixed reactions from members of the F1 paddock, including Red Bull Racing’s Christian Horner and the series’ former CEO, Bernie Ecclestone. The 35-year-old racer has spent
