Yard Goats Batter Goes Down ‘Swinging’ On Worst Strikeout You’ll Ever See

Share this: We’ve all seen batters swing at bad pitches. It’s part of baseball. But poor Josh Fuentes redefined the art of the bad strikeout Friday. Fuentes, third baseman for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats, faced a two-strike count in the eighth inning against Binghamton Rumble Ponies hurler Cory Burns. On the ensuing pitch, Burns appeared to mess up or halt his delivery, half-heartedly throwing the ball into the ground about five feet in front of him. Figuring a timeout was called and the play was dead, Fuentes offered a similarly half-hearted swing as a joke. Alas, timeout was not called. The umpire never blew the play dead, meaning that Fuentes had swung at strike three — a pitch that hit the grass about 50 feet away. The catcher

Red Sox’s Craig Kimbrel Overpowers Brewers With Filthy Ninth Inning

Share this: The Milwaukee Brewers didn’t stand a chance against Boston Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel on Thursday afternoon. After Mookie Betts gave the Red Sox a three-run lead with a go-ahead blast in the ninth inning, Kimbrel came on for the save and struck out the side in overpowering fashion to preserve Boston’s 4-1 victory. Here are all three of Kimbrel’s filthy punchout pitches. Kimbrel has been dominant in the early stages of the 2017 season. The right-hander has converted on all 10 save opportunities and currently has an ERA of 1.15 to go along with 31 strikeouts. And it’s been the strikeout pitch that’s been working for Kimbrel lately. Red Sox Notes: Dylan Bundy Claims He Didn’t Hit Mookie Betts Intentionally

Share this: Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter lauded his team’s “courage” for not retaliating after Boston Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes threw near Manny Machado’s head during the last meeting between the two teams on April 23. But Orioles starter Dylan Bundy hit Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts during the sixth inning of Monday’s 5-2 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park, which, of course, sparked questions about the powerful right-hander’s intentions. It’s impossible to know if Bundy was trying to hit the Red Sox star with the Orioles clinging to a two-run lead, and the Red Sox didn’t have a lot to say on the intent after the game. “I can’t answer that,” manager John Farrell said about Bundy’s intent, as seen on

Proud Cornet loving life on Lyon trophy trail

In his second full season with Olympique Lyonnais, Maxwel Cornet is emerging as a valuable component in a currently prolific OL attack. With a UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Beşiktaş now beckoning, the 20-year-old discusses his career so far, what it means to play for Lyon, and the promise of European glory. On growing up a street footballer ...I was five when I came to France [from Ivory Coast] and I joined Metz aged seven. I always loved playing with a ball in the playground. It was pretty much non-stop on the pitches in our neighbourhood. You don't think too much about it – it's about having

Chris Sale Throws First Batting Practice Session Of Spring Training

Share this: The Boston Red Sox acquired left-hander Chris Sale on Dec. 6 for a package of young players. On Monday, Sale threw his first live batting practice session of spring training in Fort Myers, Fla., and it was all systems go for the Red Sox new ace. Sale tossed 30 pitches to outfielder Chris Young and a few minor leaguers and was pleased with how he felt after the session. Hear what Sale had to say about his outing in the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. More Stories Source link

Terry Francona’s Bold Bullpen Moves Pay Off Vs. Red Sox, But At What Cost?

Share this: Terry Francona wasn’t about to make the same mistake as Buck Showalter. The Cleveland Indians manager saw his starter, Trevor Bauer, labor through a few rocky innings Thursday in Game 1 of the American League Division Series at Progressive Field. So, in the fifth inning, with Bauer at just 78 pitches and Cleveland holding a one-run lead, Francona decided to take drastic action, pulling Bauer after 4 2/3 innings in favor of star reliever Andrew Miller. Francona’s daring move worked. Miller stopped any momentum the Red Sox’s offense had gained after Sandy Leon’s fifth-inning home run, allowing just one Boston hit over the next two innings while striking out four. After getting two outs in the seventh from right-hander Bryan Shaw, Francona called on closer Cody

Rick Porcello Drops The Ball As Red Sox Fall To Indians In ALDS Game 1

Share this: The Boston Red Sox no doubt went into Game 1 of their American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians with a lot of confidence in their starting pitcher. Rick Porcello pitched himself into AL Cy Young contention during the 2016 season with a 22-4 record, 3.15 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a career-low .230 batting average against. But unfortunately for the Red Sox, that wasn’t the Rick Porcello who showed up for Boston’s 5-4 loss at Progressive Field on Thursday. The Porcello who showed up Thursday got off to a great start, striking out the side in the first inning after hitting leadoff batter Carlos Santana. But once the second rolled around, the right-hander gave up the 1-0 lead the Red
