Patriots Release Tom Welch After He Surrenders Sack on Tom Brady

There was no concurrent roster transaction, so the Patriots will add a player by Wednesday to get to 53.Welch has been the Patriots' third tackle for three games this season, and his release could be a good sign for Sebastian Vollmer's health. Vollmer has missed four games with a back injury. Welch surrendered the fourth sack on Brady against the Jets, allowing Jamaal Westerman to swim past him to run free into Brady's blind side. It was the only sack the Jets registered without blitzing.
