Escribá succeeds Marcelino as Villarreal coach

After parting company with Marcelino on Wednesday, Villarreal have named Fran Escribá as their new coach.The 51-year-old, who left Getafe in April, has penned a 12-month deal. His first fixture in charge of the Yellow Submarine will be the opening leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie against Monaco on Wednesday."It's very important for the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League," Escribá said at his unveiling on Thursday. Nielsen succeeds Lisdorf as Brøndby coach

Former Denmark defender Per Nielsen has replaced Peer Lisdorf, who stepped down because of personal reasons, as coach of UEFA Women's Champions League contenders Brøndby IF.Nielsen has signed an 18-month contract with the Danish league leaders. With Brøndby on a winter break, the 41-year-old will not preside over a competitive fixture until 22 February, while in March his team resume their European campaign in the quarter-finals against Swedish outfit Linköpings FC.Capped ten times, Nielsen made 547 appearances for Brøndby between 1994 and 2008.
