How does qualifying work?
The qualifying group stage began in March 2017 and finishes on 16 October 2018, with the nine group winners qualifying directly to the final tournament. The four best runners-up (i.e. the teams with the best records against the sides first, third, fourth and fifth in their group) advance to the play-offs held over two legs from 12–20 November 2018. The winners of the two ties qualify for the finals.
