2011 NFL Draft: Is Drafting Brooks Reed a Done Deal If He Is Available?

Are the Green Bay Packers eying Arizona OLB Brooks Reed with their first round draft pick?

Coming off a Super Bowl season, the Green Bay Packers truly don’t have any real needs. But, one position that they could build depth on is at outside linebacker.

Clay Matthews has developed into the best outside linebacker in all of football, but how good could he be if he had another pass rushing threat lining up opposite of him?

One of the top outside linebackers in this year’s draft class is Arizona’s Brooks Reed.

Both Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. have the Packers selecting Reed with the final pick of the first round in their latest NFL Mock Drafts.

McShay says:

“Reed was somewhat undervalued coming into the 2001 season because of an ankle injury suffered in ’09, but he was fully healthy last season and showed the quick feet, violent hands and relentlessness it takes to succeed as a 3-4 outside linebacker. We’ve had a second-round grade on Reed since August, and because some feel he is just a notch below current Packers OLB Clay Matthews in terms of overall skills it won’t be a surprise if he sneaks into the back end of the first round.”

The deal here with the Packers is that they have four or five positions that they will look to draft with their first round pick. Those positions are outside linebacker, defensive end, offensive guard, wide receiver and running back. Chances are that they will take the best player that is available, as long as they play one of those five positions.

If that happens to be Brooks Reed, then suit him up in the Green and Yellow.
