Cole, who is on a season-long loan at Lille after struggling to secure a place in the Liverpool first team, has not given up hope of an England call-up.
He has not played for the Three Lions since the World Cup last summer, but Cole, who has 56 caps to his name, says he is only focusing on his club form.
“If the call comes, I would be very happy because I am a proud Englishman,” Cole said.” I love playing for my country. If it comes, great. If it doesn’t, my main focus is to win some trophies for Lille.”
The impressive form of the likes of Stewart Downing, Theo Walcott and Jack Rodwell on duty for the Three Lions, Cole’s chances of being in Fabio Capello’s Euro 2012 squad looks bleak.
But with those selected to travel to Poland and Ukraine next summer unlikely to double up for Team GB, Cole admits it would be a dream to play for Pearce’s side.
“I would love to play in the Olympics,” he said. “I would be very excited because it is in London, in east London where I started my football career. I love the Olympics, I love the sport. I’ve been trying to get tickets but it is very hard so I better get playing in it!”
