Running back David Cobb wasn’t the only free agent worked out by the New England Patriots this week.
The Patriots also tried out wide receivers Mitch Mathews and K.J. Maye, tight end Nic Jacobs, offensive tackle Clay DeBord and defensive back Tyler Patmon, a source told NESN.com.
The receivers likely will be of most interest to Patriots fans, since New England kept just four players on their 53-man roster.
Mathews went undrafted out of BYU and spent the summer with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 6-foot-5, 222-pound wideout ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March with a 6.99-second 3-cone, 4.25-second short shuttle, 36-inch vertical leap and 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump. He caught 152 passes for 2,083 yards with 24 touchdowns at BYU.
Maye went undrafted out of Minnesota and spent training camp with the New York Giants. The 5-foot-8, 191-pound receiver caught one pass for 17 yards in the preseason.
Jacobs went undrafted out of McNeese State in 2014 and has spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars. He has three receptions for 22 yards with a touchdown in 24 career NFL games.
DeBord went undrafted out of Eastern Washington this year. He spent training camp with the Arizona Cardinals.
Patmon went undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2014. He’s spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans. He has 21 tackles and one interception in 24 career games with two starts.
