Jaap Timmer leaves behind incredible legacy and big shoes to fill
It was announced today that Jaap Timmer, more affectionately known as ‘Mister TT’, passed away leaving behind an incredible legacy at the TT Circuit, Assen.
Timmer, who was born and bred in Assen was actively involved in the TT Circuit all his life, commentating at races and then moving into governance roles. In 1973 he joined the board of the foundation Circuit van Drenthe and in 1978 became its president until 1988. In total he spent 25 years as a member of the board and finally retired in 2007. He was one of the founders of ROPA (Racing Organizers Grand Prix Association).
His passion for racing and his beloved TT Circuit inspired the nickname Mr TT and was a familiar face to all who frequented races in Assen.

“The TT Assen community is shocked and saddened by the death of Jaap Timmer. Before you could realize how and what was going on, Jaap left us. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy go first to his family. We hope they find the power and strength to bear this great loss. Jaap Timmer was Mr. TT and has had a very great achievement for global motorsport and the TT Circuit Assen in particular. He was member of the board for 25 years of which 10 years as president. His energy and creativity were a source of inspiration for many. We will miss his commitment and personality.”
