BC Will Honor 9/11 Hero Welles Crowther With Red Bandana Uniforms Vs. Clemson

Welles Crowther, known as “The Man with the Red Bandana,” saved at least a dozen people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. And when Boston College hosts the Clemson Tigers on Friday night, Crowther will be honored by his alma mater.

Crowther, who played lacrosse for BC, had a signature red bandana, and he was wearing it when he died after the South Tower collapsed. When the Eagles play the Tigers under the lights, they’ll be wearing uniforms inspired by Crowther’s famous bandana.

The gesture will be a part of the Eagles’ Service Game, an event the Crowther family will be on hand to witness. The coaching staff also will wear Under Armour apparel featuring the bandana theme, and the school’s athletic department will hand out thousands of red bandanas to fans at the gates of Alumni Stadium.
