Another season, another Blake Griffin injury.
The Los Angeles Clippers’ All-Star power forward will undergo “minor surgery” on his sore right knee, league sources told The Vertical’s Shams Charania, who added that Griffin is expected back in the lineup “at some point” in January.
Griffin previously missed a game earlier this month due to soreness in the same knee. The procedure was described to Charania as a “cleanup” by league sources.
The Orange County Register’s Dan Woike confirmed Charania’s report and clarified some details on both the procedure and Griffin’s timetable to return.
Griffin’s injury history is concerning both for the Clippers and for Griffin himself, who has the option to become a free agent after this season. As The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor points out, Griffin always has had issues with his left leg. Adding an injury to his right leg into the mix presents a whole new set of potential issues.
The five-time All-Star is averaging 21.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists this season.
