Red Sox Wrap: Boston’s Bullpen Implodes In 6-4 Loss To Royals

Share this: The Boston Red Sox’s bullpen hadn’t blown a save in their last 21 games coming into Wednesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. But all streaks must come to an end. The Red Sox held a two-run lead in the eighth inning at Kauffman Stadium, but Matt Barnes and Robby Scott were unable to get the ball to Craig Kimbrel. Barnes walked the first two batters he faced to start the inning, and Scott followed by walking Eric Hosmer to load the bases with no outs. That’s when Salvador Perez made them pay. The All-Star catcher blasted a 3-2 fastball over the left field fence for a grand slam to give the Royals a 6-4 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Red Sox fell

Red Sox Notes: Chris Sale Says He’ll ‘Never Settle’ After Missing Complete Game

Share this: Chris Sale is one of the best pitchers in baseball, and he’s also one of the fiercest competitors. This was on full display Tuesday night, when the Boston Red Sox left-hander narrowly missed a complete game against the Kansas City Royals. Sale tossed 8 1/3 dominant innings in the Red Sox’s 8-3 win over the Royals, but the five-time MLB All-Star visibly was upset when manager John Farrell yanked him in the ninth inning. After the game, Sale didn’t hide the fact that he was upset with not being able to go the distance, but his mood quickly changed once his team sealed the victory. “It sucks,” he said, as seen on NESN’s Red Sox postgame coverage. “I wanted to get that

John Farrell Praises Sam Travis, Deven Marrero For Rising To Occassion

Share this: Sam Travis and Deven Marrero didn’t have much time to prepare for the Boston Red Sox’s game against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. Both youngsters were immediately placed in the starting lineup after being called up from Triple-A Pawtucket, and they made their starts count. Travis and Marrero combined to go 3-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs scored in Boston’s 8-3 victory. After the game, Red Sox manager John Farrell praised the rookies for providing the team with a lift, especially considering the unusual circumstances. Bruins’ Patrice Begeron Looks To Make History With Fourth Selke Award Win

Share this: Patrice Bergeron is one of the best two-way players in hockey, and the Boston Bruins center typically is acknowledged for his stellar play. Bergeron has been a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Award — given to the best forward who excels on defense — for six consecutive seasons, and has brought home the award three times. But if Bergeron receives the honor at Wednesday’s NHL Awards in Las Vegas, he will have joined Montreal Canadiens legend Bob Gainey as the only players to win the Selke four times. NESN’s Adam Pellerin caught up with Bergeron in Las Vegas on Tuesday to discuss the significance of the award, as well as the importance of putting in effort on both ends of the

Red Sox Vs. Royals Lineup: Sam Travis, Deven Marrero Return For Boston

Share this: The Boston Red Sox’s lineup will have a much different look for Game 2 of the three-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Rookies Sam Travis and Deven Marrero make their return to Boston’s lineup as a result of a pair of roster moves. Pablo Sandoval was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left inner ear infection and pitcher Austin Maddox has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. With lefty Mike Strahm taking the hill for the Royals, the Red Sox opted to sit a few of their left-handed bats. Travis will take over the first base duties in place of Mitch Moreland, while Chris Young gets the nod in left field instead of Andrew Benintendi. Boston also will

NBA Rumors: Josh Jackson Still Hasn’t Worked Out For Celtics With Draft Days Awa…

Share this: The Boston Celtics likely can cross Markelle Fultz off their wish list after trading the No. 1 overall pick to the Philadelphia 76ers, but in a draft that’s considered to have four or five top prospects, the C’s still have options at the No. 3 spot. One of those options is Josh Jackson, and after Boston made the big trade, it reportedly tried to set up a meeting with the former Kansas star. But that workout still hasn’t happened, sources told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on Tuesday. Josh Jackson did not work out for the Celtics on Tues, multiple sources tell ESPN.
