Red Sox Notes: Hector Velazquez Continues To Show Potential For Boston

Share this: It didn’t appear that Hector Velazquez was ready for the big leagues after his first career start against the Oakland Athletics on May 18, but the right-hander is doing his best to change that opinion. Velazquez was called up in case of emergency Wednesday and was thrust into action against the Philadelphia Phillies when Brian Johnson was forced to leave the game with an injury. He tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his first career win, and another opportunity to start. That opportunity came Monday night against the Kansas City Royals, and he made the most of it. With the Boston Red Sox’s bullpen needing a breather, Velazquez threw 5 1/3 quality innings. The righty surrendered two runs on five hits

Red Sox’s Jackie Bradley Jr. Owns Up To Costly Defensive Mistake Vs. Royals

Share this: Jackie Bradley Jr. is one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball, but the Boston Red Sox center fielder had a rare lapse in judgment Monday night at Kauffman Stadium. And instead of playing it safe, Bradley laid out for a diving catch, only to see the ball go under his glove and roll to the wall. The mishap proved costly for the Red Sox, as Butera motored around to third and the Royals went on to post two runs in the seventh en route to a 4-2 victory in the series opener. After the game, Bradley owned up to

Jayson Tatum Would Be Celtics’ Top Draft Pick, If Jeff Van Gundy Had A Say

Share this: It appears the Boston Celtics weren’t the only ones wanting to go another direction with the No. 1 overall draft pick. Jeff Van Gundy, the ESPN analyst and former NBA coach, said two weeks ago during the NBA Finals that the Celtics should draft Duke forward Jayson Tatum over Washington guard Markelle Fultz. “Well, it seems like there’s a lot of different opinions, (but) I don’t think (Celtics president of basketball operations) Danny Ainge is going to be swayed by anybody else’s opinion,” Van Gundy told “Pillow Talk Show” host Max Berkowitz in San Francisco, for an episode that will premiere Tuesday on NESN.com. “I think he’s going to evaluate (it) himself. I like Jayson Tatum. … I love Jayson Tatum.” While

Kevin Durant To Decline Player Option, Will Re-Sign With Warriors

Share this: Kevin Durant will become a free agent on July 1, but the star forward won’t be available on the open market for very long. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Durant plans to decline the player option on his contract with the Golden State Warriors, only to re-sign with the team for less than max value. Durant would have been on the books for $28 million had he accepted the option, but his opting out helps out the Warriors in the long run. By KD taking less than the max, Golden State will be in a much better position to re-sign Andre Iguodala, who’s also set to hit free agency on July 1. Haynes, citing sources, believes Durant’s new deal will be similar
