Spencer appointed Chairman of the FIM MotoGP™ Stewards Panel

From 2019, Spencer will play a pivotal role within the panel – almost 40 years since the Louisiana native made his debut on the world stage. That debut came in 1980 in the Belgian Grand Prix, but the American first began to set the world alight in 1982 when he finished the year third overall in the 500cc Championship and took his first win in the Belgian Grand Prix, soon after taking another in the San Marino GP. The following season Spencer took his first premier class crown and in 1985 he did it again – as well as competing in, and winning, the 250cc World Championship that same year. A record breaker from the off, Spencer was the youngest

Now or never: who can stop Marquez’ march towards the crown?

So what of Valentino Rossi? The Italian remains third by virtue of consistency and consistently getting the best from the package, despite some struggles for Yamaha of late. He needs to go big to play a big part in the title decider, but like most venues, he’s a former winner at Motegi – that’s a given. Could Thailand have been a turning point for Yamaha too? Both Rossi, who came fourth at Buriram, and teammate Maverick Viñales, who locked out the podium, had much improved pace there – and that despite the hot temperatures and high tyre wear. They’ll hope to be a force to be reckoned with as it’s their home race and also the home track of arch

Contrasting fortunes

Redding and Marco Melandri are the only two 15-year-old riders to win a Grand Prix race. The Donington Park win was the first British 125 cc winner since Chas Mortimer in 1973 and the first British solo class winner at the British round of the World Championship for 22 years. Redding is the only British Grand Prix winner in any class at Donington Park. Moving up to the Moto2™ class he continued to break the record and came so close to clinching the title in 2013, eventually finishing runner-up after a battle royal with Pol Espargaro. Source link

Best rookie for Syahrin in Buriram: “This is what we want”

The Malaysian had been outside the points on three consecutive occasions in Austria, Misano and Aragon, but the 24-year-old was back on form in Buriram: “Of course I’m really happy because this is what we want,” explained Syahrin, who has now claimed top rookie honours in five races this season. “We got a little bit stuck behind so we needed to pass the slower riders. After I passed them I felt really good in my rhythm, we were really consistent. I think my pace was more or less the same as the front group, but yeah because when they make a gap, when I tried to push it was always the same gap.” Source link

Rossi: “This weekend we improved a lot”

“This weekend, we improved a lot. Unfortunately, I was not strong enough for the podium but it’s a much better race than the last three or four,” confirmed ‘The Doctor’ after being 14 seconds off the win in Austria, 19 behind at Misano and 15 in Aragon. He continued: “I stayed in front, I started from the front row, we were competitive. Still not enough, at the end, Marquez and Dovizioso are a bit faster than us, and we need to understand if it was just the track that helped us, or the reality that we made a small step.” Source link
