Giancarlo Stanton’s Agent: Red Sox Never Were Presented As Trade Option
We might never know whether Giancarlo Stanton would have accepted a trade to the Boston Red Sox. According to Stanton’s agent, Joel Wolfe, the Red Sox never were presented as a possible trade destination for the All-Star outfielder during the Miami Marlins’ negotiations. Stanton, of course, waived his no-trade clause to join the New York Yankees, who officially introduced him Monday during a news conference at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla. MOSCOW — Russian athletes are overwhelmingly in favor of competing at the upcoming Pyeongchang Games despite a ban on the national team, the country’s Olympic committee said Monday. Sofia Velikaya said the Russian Olympic Committee’s athletes’ commission, which she chairs, has heard from “all the athletes in all sports” on the Olympic program, with a majority in favor of competing. Saturday night’s bout at Madison Square Garden between Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko and Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux had the makings of a great fight. And if you’re Lomachenko, it sure was. The 29-year-old got Rigondeaux to quit by a sixth-round TKO. Lomachenko controlled the fight from the beginning, allowing Rigondeaux to look comfortable only in the first round, which was spent with the two hardly throwing any punches in the center of the ring.
