A 17-year-old boy accused of a Nov. 30 armed carjacking in Downers Grove was ordered to be held in juvenile detention Monday till his subsequent courtroom date in DuPage County juvenile courtroom.
The boy, who’s title was withheld as a result of he’s a juvenile, has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, illegal use of a weapon and possession of a stolen motorized vehicle, all felonies, based on the DuPage County state’s lawyer’s workplace. During his listening to, the state filed a movement to switch his case to grownup courtroom.
On Nov. 30, Downers Grove police responded to a name of a carjacking on Prairie Avenue, prosecutors stated. Police allege {that a} lady and her daughter have been sitting of their car when an armed and masked individual, later recognized the 17-year-old boy, approached the car, knocked on the window and demanded she give him the automotive.
The lady threw the keys to the car at him whereas she and her daughter bought out, prosecutors stated. The boy then allegedly bought into the car and drove away.
The boy was taken into custody Dec. 13, as Downers Grove police have been investigating a second carjacking within the space wherein the 17-year-old was allegedly concerned, prosecutors stated. He was already on probation for theft when he was arrested.
If he’s prosecuted as an grownup and located responsible, he faces no less than 21 years in jail, prosecutors stated.
He is due again in juvenile courtroom Jan. 3.
