Earl Thomas Breaks Leg In Seahawks-Panthers, Tweets About Retirement

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas suffered a heartbreaking injury in the first half of Seattle’s home game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night.

He was carted off the field with a lower body injury, which NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports, citing sources, is a broken bone in his leg that will keep him sidelined indefinitely. NBC sideline reporter Michelle Tafoya said on the broadcast that Thomas suffered a cracked tibia.

Thomas hurt his left leg going for an interception and colliding with teammate Kam Chancellor.

He actually took to Twitter after leaving the game and mentioned retirement.

Thomas has been fortunate to avoid injuries until this point in his career. He has played all 16 games for the Seahawks in each of his first six NFL seasons. He’s missed one game in his career — last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Losing Thomas for an extended period of time would be a huge blow to a Seattle defense that allows the fewest points per game in the league.
