J.J. Watt plans to tackle his rehab as ferociously as he tackles opposing quarterbacks.
The Houston Texans placed Watt on injured reserve Wednesday after the All-Pro defensive end re-injured his surgically repaired back during last Thursday’s loss to the New England Patriots.
Watt, who missed the entire preseason before returning for Houston’s first three regular-season games, posted an inspirational message shortly after the news of his IR stint was announced.
“I will be back.” he declared.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, citing sources, that Watt is expected to be out an extended period of time, perhaps even the rest of the season. It’s a huge blow to the Texans’ defense, as the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year is one of the most dominant forces in football.
The 27-year-old never has missed a game in his six-year NFL career, a stretch of 83 consecutive starts.
