Michael Phelps Spent The First Day Of His Olympic Retirement In A Pool

If you spent nearly three decades working at McDonald’s, chances are your first meal upon leaving wouldn’t be a Big Mac.

But try telling that to the most decorated Olympian of all time.

Michael Phelps recently announced his retirement from swimming after racking up six more medals (five gold), at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After a grueling Olympic schedule, Phelps returned home to the U.S., where one of the first items on his agenda was enjoying some much-needed R&R — in a pool.

Of course, Phelps isn’t exactly swimming a 100-meter final here — he’s lounging with his fiancée, Nicole, and their baby son, Boomer. And it makes sense that the 31-year-old would feel comfortable in a setting where he’s spent so much of his life.

Still, you’d think Phelps would have different post-racing plans after swimming himself to exhaustion in Rio. If the 28-time Olympic medalist decides to come out of retirement for the 2020 Games in Tokyo, this will be the first evidence.
