NCAA Bracket 2011: Dick Vitale Makes His Case for the Ohio State Buckeyes

The Dick Vitale NCAA Bracket has the Ohio State Buckeyes as champions.

Now well into our complex, academy study aimed at determining the NCAA’s most reliable bracket pundit, we come to the NCAA’s most recognizable name: Dick Vitale, the man who turned excitement into a brand.

His picks are below (and the video is here):

Elite 8:

Ohio State vs. Syracuse:

“I got the Buckeyes of Ohio State advancing.”

Duke vs. UConn:

[unintelligible]

Louisville vs. Notre Dame:

“Louisville, my friends.”

Pittsburgh vs. Gonzaga:

“Louisville and Pittsburgh.”

Final Four:

Ohio State vs. Duke:

“When it’s all said and done, it’s gonna be Ohio State and Pittsburgh for the National Title.”

Louisville vs. Pittsburgh:

Ibid.

Championship Game:

Ohio State vs. Pittsburgh:

“Celebration in Columbus. Move over Jim Tressel! Move over football! That big man on campus – Thad Matta, baby! Basketball, number one in Columbus!”

Thoughts: I’m curious where along the line he has Kansas being dismissed, as the Jayhawks are in the weakest region in the Tournament, and they’re very potentially its best team. On the other hand, if anyone in the Southwest is upsetting Kansas, it’s Lousville, so his prediction isn’t completely off the wall.

I like Dicky V’s Ohio State pick, and I think Duke isn’t getting enough credit from many of the other analysts. As such, the Vitale bracket assumes the number two spot.

Current bracket rankings:

1.    Anthony

2.    Vitale

3.    Bilas

4.    Digger Phelps

Two hours ago, I knew nothing about the NCAA Tournament. My confidence is growing. I’ll be back with more soon.
