Sammy Watkins Injury: Bills Receiver’s Foot Could Sideline Him For Weeks, Per Re…

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins’ career has been derailed by injuries, which is too bad because when fully healthy he’s been productive and exciting to watch.

Watkins played Sunday in Buffalo’s 13-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but he failed to make much of an impact with just four receptions for 43 yards.

His ability to not only be effective, but actually play in the Bills’ upcoming games is uncertain right now.

“The feeling now is whether Watkins can manage the pain in his foot,” Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News wrote Monday.

“There was a fear on Sunday night that the wideout could miss the rest of the season. Medical personnel, including renowned foot specialist Robert Anderson, have advised Watkins against a surgical remedy for the issue at this time. It’s possible, however, that Watkins could be shut down for several weeks — if not longer — depending on how his foot responds in the coming days.”

Losing the former No. 3 overall draft pick for any amount of time would be a huge setback for the Bills offense, which managed just 111 passing yards in Week 1.

The drop off in talent from Watkins to the Bills’ next best receivers is pretty steep. Robert Woods is the No. 2 receiver, and he’s hardly someone opposing defenses fear.

If Watkins does miss a game, or a few, the Bills will need an improved performance from LeSean McCoy. The veteran running back is a dual threat with his above-average receiving skills, but he tallied just 70 total yard against the Ravens.
