The 21-year-old has attracted attention across Europe after impressing for his club in the Champions League.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen his squad when the transfer window opens next month, with Salah one of his targets.

Egypt international Salah has been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United in recent months, with reports suggesting that Basel would sell him for around 15 million pounds.

Salah’s prospects of a move to Anfield appeared to be talked up this week by Mohamed Zika, a former teammate at Egyptian club Al Mokawloon.

Zika was quoted as telling Egyptian TV that Salah was all but certain to join Liverpool in January.

In a video translation on KingFut.com, he said: “Yes, I am 99 percent sure this will happen. He makes us and all of Egypt proud. Everybody talks about Mohamed Salah now — and aside from that he’s my friend. I’m very happy for him.”

Salah struck the equaliser when Basel earned a 2-1 win at Chelsea in the Champions League on Sept. 18 and then got the only goal in a 1-0 victory at home to the Blues on Nov. 26.

However, the Swiss champions failed to make it through the group and dropped into the Europa League, in which they will play Maccabi Tel Aviv over two legs in February.
