Awesome beach ball for competitive outdoor play. Has the very traditional feel that I’ve enjoyed for over 20 years on the beach since learning to play using Spalding’s Top-Flight volleyballs. We have a consistent 10-15 mph breeze on our beach so this ball plays so much better than the Wilson AVP which moves around like a ping-pong ball in the slightest breeze. The play of the AVP ball is not much different from bringing an indoor volleyball to the beach. People always whine that the Wilson is the best ball out there, yet you haven’t seen it ever used in the Olympics and it sure as hell won’t be in London in 2012. I’d rather have Olympic gold (or silver or bronze) than a tourney win on the (now defunct) AVP tour. It’s all about preference. Also I’ve noticed several occasions (two most recent at a beach tourney on 08/21/2010) where the AVP ball will develop a leak when encountering debris or rough sand and stop holding air. Have yet to encounter this with the KOB ball. Plus, we work with Jr players throughout the summer and this is the ball they use on the US open Jr Beach Tour that has three stops in our state, so it helps them to train with it before playing in the tour stops.
