I got this for my son for Christmas (he’s 13), and he has enjoyed it. He loves ping-pong and had been asking for this racket the three months prior to Christmas. It is a good-quality racket.

Good paddle for beginners and wallet-tight intermediate players, January 23, 2011

I have used this paddle for about half a year now so I know quite a bit about it.
Starting with the blade (middle wood part). Its is a very light weight blade that is very good for those who have a relatively speedy game play, but due to this lighter blade it does not have much momentum and is therefore not for those who play a power game. Also, perhaps due to the light material of the blade, it seems that some of the power is absorbed by the paddle instead of being transferred to the ball.

For the sponge. It is a low quality sponge and has a very slow rebound time (the time it takes for the sponge to return to its original shape and depth after it has been impacted by the ball) which further goes to reducing the power of the paddle, due to the fact that if the ball hits near the same place it will not provide as much support against the ball.

For the rubber. This is a pretty good quality rubber as it provides a lot of traction against the ball to cause a lot of spin, so it is great for those who want spin and don’t really care about power.

For the handle. It is not much better than a basic handle found on a $15 paddle in the sense of ergonomics, but it is quite easy to get used to and will not slip in your hand from quick movements. It has also been hollowed out to reduce the weight of the paddle but this has caused the bat to become top heavy which some people do not like but that solely depends upon personal preference.

So overall this is a great paddle for beginners because power should not be to much of a concern yet as more focus should be going towards keeping the ball in play and being able to put the ball where you want it to go (ball placement). It can also be used for intermediate players that don’t want to spend $100+ on a table tennis bat because it does provide quite a bit of spin and the power is not too bad. So for those who are looking to start playing table tennis, I highly recommend this paddle because it is an overall good paddle for all levels of experience up to intermediate and great for beginners. For those looking for a slightly better paddle than this, that has a much more ergonomic handle, a better sponge, and slightly more power, I suggest taking a look at the STIGA Sabre which you can find at your local DICK’S. For those wanting to buy this paddle I recommend going to Academy and buying it there as it only cost $24.99. I hope this helps and ping pong on!
