Of all the crazy ramifications of Tuesday’s blockbuster trade between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, here’s one that might get overlooked: The Celtics no longer have a vested interest in the failure of the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics acquired Kyrie Irving from the Cavs by dealing Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Nets’ 2018 first-round draft pick. That Nets pick was Boston’s final direct asset from its 2013 mega deal with Brooklyn that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett out of town — a trade that’s widely regarded as one of the most lopsided in NBA history. Just how lopsided, you ask? With the book officially closed ... NESN.com

NBA Fans Had Fun With Old Gordon Hayward Tweets Where He Was Indecisive
Share this: Where is Gordon Hayward going to sign? Well, we aren’t sure anyone knows the answer, even Hayward. ESPN’s Chris Haynes reported Tuesday that the free-agent forward had decided to sign with the Boston Celtics. But as soon as Haynes broke the news, reports refuting Hayward’s move to Boston began to surface when Hayward’s agent told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that Hayward had not yet made a decision. Reports continued to trickle in throughout the day that the 27-year-old swingman was having a difficult time choosing which team to join. And as NBA fans waited with bated breath, they dug up some of Hayward’s old tweets showing how indecisive he can be. Good to know he's been in this situation before. — The Love Below (@TheLoveBel0w) July 4,
Juventus first to win six Serie A titles in a row
How they won itJuventus have done it in more spectacular ways in recent years, without losing a game in 2011/12 or with a record points tally of 102 in 2013/14, but their latest title cannot be downplayed. Indeed, the milestone achieved by Massimiliano Allegri's team this term is without precedent. No team had ever won the Scudetto for six consecutive seasons in Italy. When Juve added Miralem Pjanić and Gonzalo Higuaín from Scudetto rivals Roma and Napoli respectively, many predicted a one-horse race in Serie A. In football, however, you do not win titles on paper but on grass and the Bianconeri had to work hard
Higuaín on landing knockout blows for Juventus
Gonzalo Higuaín's first UEFA Champions League knockout goals since 2013 were the difference between Juventus and Monaco in the first leg of the semi-finals at Stade Louis II. For a player of his calibre, a record of only two goals in 24 knockout games prior to Wednesday night's heroics was a statistical anomaly. Doubling his career tally of knockout strikes in the 2-0 win at Monaco was an eloquent response to those who doubted whether it would ever happen for him in the tournament's latter stages. The Argentinian international, who had last scored in a knockout game for Real Madrid against Galatasaray in the 2013 quarter-finals,
Aaron Hernandez Died An Innocent Man Under An Old Massachusetts Law
Aaron Hernandez was convicted of murder in the case of Odin Lloyd’s 2013 shooting death, but after his suicide in prison Wednesday, he died an innocent man. Under an old Massachusetts legal principle called “abatement ab initio,” Hernandez’s conviction will be voided, as the case hadn’t yet gone through the appeals process, chief legal counsel to the Massachusetts Bar Association Martin W. Healy told The Boston Globe on Wednesday. Healy also said it rarely happens, but it comes from English common law and exists in many older states. “Unfortunately, in the Odin Lloyd matter, for the family, there won’t be any real closure,” Healy told Th...
