Red Sox Left Fielder Andrew Benintendi Named Baseball’s Top Prospect

Share this: The Boston Red Sox still have the top-ranked prospect in baseball after trading Yoan Moncada to acquire star left-hander Chris Sale in December. According to MLB.com, Red Sox starting left fielder Andrew Benintendi now is the top prospect in baseball, earning the No. 1 spot on its Top 100 prospects list, with Moncada coming in second. Benintendi still has rookie eligibility, as he spent only 34 days in the big leagues and didn’t exceed 130 at-bats in 2016. New York Yankees shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres rounded out the top three. The Red Sox had two other prospects crack the list with third baseman Rafael Devers coming in at No. 17 and left-handed pitcher Jason Groome landing at No. 41. The other top prospect that Boston sent

David Ortiz Reportedly Hasn’t Expressed Interest In World Baseball Classic

It seems David Ortiz is enjoying his retirement. The former Boston Red Sox designated hitter has been appearing in a multitude of commercials, and despite his cliffhanger tweet Monday night, it appears he’s not planning on returning to the diamond. Not even to play for his home country. Even though Ortiz won’t be showing up to spring training for the Red Sox in March, the slugger hasn’t shown any interest in playing for the Dominican Republic in this year’s World Baseball Classic, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, citing team general manager Moises Alou. Ortiz wasn’t a member of the Dominican Republic team that won th... NESN.com

Chris Sale, Who Got David Price’s Blessing, Doesn’t Care About ‘Ace’ Label

Share this: Just two seasons ago, the Boston Red Sox’s lack of an ace was such a hot topic that Clay Buchholz made T-shirts about it. Now, the Red Sox have three of them. Dave Dombrowski and Co. landed the prize of the offseason Tuesday in Chris Sale, adding one of the best pitchers in baseball to a rotation that includes five-time All-Star David Price and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello. In a conference call with the Red Sox on Wednesday morning, Sale gushed about pitching among such talent. It appears the feeling is mutual, too: Sale says Price was the first person to contact him after Tuesday’s blockbuster. “Yes, more so with Price, just seeing each other during the summer,” Sale

Japan Baseball’s Shohei Otani Crushes Ball Into Dome Roof; Could MLB Be Next?

Japan Baseball’s Shohei Otani Crushes Ball Into Dome Roof; Could MLB Be Next?

Shohei Otani’s pitching skills make him a hot commodity in the baseball world, but his slugging ability could make him a legend. The Japanese baseball star hit a ball into the roof of the Tokyo Dome on Sunday in Japan’s 12-10 exhibition win over the Netherlands. Per Tokyo Dome rules, umpires awarded Otani a double. But the stunned looks on the faces of his Japan teammates suggest he’s a special talent. Ex-New York Yankees slugger Hideki Matsui struck a ball into the roof of the famous venue in 2002. While Otani appears to be following in the footsteps of Japanese baseball Giants, he actually could be blazing his own trail. Otani,

Share this: The baseball world suffered a devastating loss Sunday when 24-year-old budding star Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident. His Miami Marlins canceled their Sunday game against the Atlanta Braves in the wake of the incident, but decided to play Monday and begin their series with the visiting New York Mets. Before the game began, both teams honored Fernandez’s memory with a touching tribute. Here’s a recap of the ceremony, as well as the best 16 photos from the ceremony honoring No. 16. The ceremony began with a video tribute on the outfield video board set to “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” — except it was a sadder, slower version performed by what sounded like a ceremonial bugle, which is

Top 15 Photos Of Tim Tebow’s First Mets Workouts As Professional Baseball Player

Share this: And so the Tim Tebow Era in New York begins. No, not that New York (besides, it’s actually New Jersey). We’re talking about baseball Tebow and the New York Mets. The former NFL quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner officially began his professional baseball career Monday with his first workout at the Mets’ spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., where he was swarmed by both fans and media for the first two days. Tebow did a bit of everything, including baserunning drills, batting practice (he hit a home run Tuesday), defensive work in the outfield, meeting with the press and, of course, signing autographs for all his loyal fans. Kid Brought To Tears After Angels Star Mike Trout Signs His Baseball

Share this: Sunday was a day one Los Angeles Angels fan will never forget. A kid wearing a Mike Trout jersey attempted to get an autograph from the Angels superstar before Sunday’s game between L.A. and the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Trout signed his baseball, and the kid began crying tears of joy, presumably. The kid’s reaction when Trout grabbed his baseball to sign it also was priceless, and you could see him telling Trout “you’re my favorite player.” Don’t expect this fan to ever give up that baseball. Getting an autograph from a likely Hall of Famer is one thing, but receiving it in person at an actual game is something else. More Stories Source link
