Bastianini bolts to the top on Friday in Aragon

Bulega topped the session in the opening stages after finishing ninth in FP1, with the Italian displacing Championship leader Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) for third at the end of the FP2 session – the Spaniard setting his lap times on his own to finish fourth on the combined timesheets. Niccolo Antonelli (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounds out the top five on Friday after finishing the morning session outside the top 20, with Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) stringing a strong last run together to claw himself up the combined timesheets to fifth – the Spaniard still suffering from the five-rider Misano crash.   Source link

Bastianini wins breathless Moto3™ race

An almighty battle at the front developed, with John McPhee (CIP Green Power) Bastianini, Bezzecchi, Rodrigo and Suzuki the five riders left at the front in the final three laps after the two huge crashes. McPhee led over the line onto the final lap, but it was ‘The Beast’ who expertly slipstreamed his way to the front, with Rodrigo and Bezzecchi also getting past McPhee. The Italian rode a flawless last lap to take a much-needed victory, as Championship leader Bezzecchi pipped Rodrigo on the line to grab second place – McPhee had to settle for fourth, his best result of the season. Jerez test: Arbolino, Bastianini, Martin the fastest trio

Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse) ended the three days P11 overall, ahead of Gabriel Rodrigo (RBA BOE Skull Rider Team), Andrea Migno (Angel Nieto Team Moto3) and Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Leopard Racing). Czech veteran Jakub Kornfeill (PruestelGP) completed the fastest fifteen, just ahead of Jaume Masia (Bester Capital Dubai). Masia, who, like Bulega, is recovering from injury, likewise made a big step up on the final day. Fellow rookies Alonso Lopez (Estrella Galicia 0,0), Kazakhstani rider Makar Yurchenko (CIP – Green Power), and reigning Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Champion Kazuki Masaki (RBA BOE Skull Rider) were P19, P20 and P25 respectively as they gear up for their first season in the World Championship. Martin and Bastianini split by less than a tenth in testing

Behind the top three, the gaps didn’t get any bigger. Day 2 crasher Aron Canet (EG 0,0) was fourth overall and only 0.017 off Bezzecchi, with exactly the same gap back to Niccolo Antonelli (SIC58 Squadra Corse) in fifth as the Italian gets up to speed quickly in his new team, much like compatriot Bastianini. Philipp Oettl (Südmetall Schedl GP Racing) broke the Spanish and Italian dominion at the top in six, with the German on the Austrian bike a tenth and a half further back. Source link

Bastianini: “Now we are competitive”

Thanks to a well-timed flying lap, Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Moto3) will start from pole position for the first time in 2016. This is the first time the Italian has taken back-to-back poles at a circuit, starting the 2015 Dutch GP from pole as well. In 2015 his pole came thanks to a 1’41.283, in 2016 a 1’42.463 was enough due to the conditions. If it remains dry Bastianini is confident he can battle for victory thanks to more stability through the fast sections on track, but if the rain comes he believes it will be a much closer battle....
