Share this: Saturday was quite the day at the ballpark for Brian Johnson. The left-hander was called up to the big leagues by the Boston Red Sox for a spot start at Fenway Park, and he delivered a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. Johnson already was sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for the returning David Price, but he went out with some very nice, encouraging words from his Red Sox teammates. To hear what the players said after Johnson’s stellar start, check out the video above from “NESN Sports Today,” presented by People’s United Bank. More Stories Source link

Mookie Betts Throws Elbow In Deven Marrero’s Face Attempting To Celebrate
Share this: Mookie Betts is a true five-tool player and has been a constant in the Boston Red Sox’s lineup even when the rest of the team is slumping. But his celebration skills could use some work. Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia knocked in the right fielder and third baseman Deven Marrero on a double in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 11-6 win over the Texas Rangers, but it wasn’t without incident. Because when Betts and Marrero met at home plate, Betts lifted his arm in celebration only to elbow Marrero right in the nose. The two laughed it off, although it appears Betts found it a little funnier than Marrero did. However, the Red Sox’s other outfielders might want to watch out for
Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello Still In Search Of Dominant Form Early On
Share this: On most nights, what Rick Porcello gave the Boston Red Sox wouldn’t have been enough. The reigning American League Cy Young winner gave up five runs (four earned) on a season-high 11 hits during the Red Sox’s 11-6 win over the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. Porcello hasn’t been able to find the form that propelled him to the prestigious award last season, as his ERA now stands at 4.35 after Tuesday’s mediocre showing. The right-hander’s season stats mirror his career averages, which are a far cry from the dominant 2016 season that Porcello put together. His career ERA of 4.20 is just a shade under his season ERA, while his home runs per nine innings (1.6), Fielding Independent Pitching (3.94) and his
Red Sox Prospect Report: Reassessing The Farm System Through First Quarter Of Season
It’s a weird time for the Boston Red Sox farm system given the overhaul at the major league level in the last 18 months or so. Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has made some splashy moves since taking over, and that’s taken quite the toll on the Red Sox minor league system. The list of the organization’s top prospects looks much different than it did even a year ago, but there are still some interesting names who could soon make headlines — either in the organization or as a piece in a potential trade to further shake up a major league team that’s been mediocre through nearly two months of
Athletics’ Jed Lowrie Reminisces About Playing In Red Sox Organization
Share this: Oakland Athletics second baseman Jed Lowrie is looking forward to playing against the Boston Red Sox. The veteran infielder spent seven years in the Red Sox organization, four of which at the big league level. NESN’s Guerin Austin caught up with Lowrie before Thursday’s game, and you can hear what he had to say in the video above from “Red Sox Gameday Live,” presented by DCU. Red Sox Vs. Rays Lineup: Chris Sale Starts; Hanley Ramirez Remains Out
Chris Sale will look to help return the Boston Red Sox to winning ways. The Red Sox ace will start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park in the second of the teams’ three-game series. Sale and Co. will look to preserve their slight lead over the Rays in the American League East standings with a victory. Tampa defeated Boston 5-4 on Friday, punishing the hosts for their early defensive errors. Red Sox manager John Farrell has opted to start Deven Marrerro at third base in order to provide more security on the corner and bat ninth in the lineup. Hanley Ramirez will sit out his third consecutive game
Red Sox’s Craig Kimbrel Overpowers Brewers With Filthy Ninth Inning
Share this: The Milwaukee Brewers didn’t stand a chance against Boston Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel on Thursday afternoon. After Mookie Betts gave the Red Sox a three-run lead with a go-ahead blast in the ninth inning, Kimbrel came on for the save and struck out the side in overpowering fashion to preserve Boston’s 4-1 victory. Here are all three of Kimbrel’s filthy punchout pitches. Kimbrel has been dominant in the early stages of the 2017 season. The right-hander has converted on all 10 save opportunities and currently has an ERA of 1.15 to go along with 31 strikeouts. And it’s been the strikeout pitch that’s been working for Kimbrel lately.
