John Farrell Explains How Twins’ Adalberto Mejia Stymied Red Sox’s Bats
Share this: Adalberto Mejia isn’t a household name, but the Minnesota Twins starter sure pitched like an ace Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox. The left-hander hurled 5 2/3 scoreless innings, only giving up five hits to go along with three strikeouts in the Twins’ 4-1 win over the Sox. After the game, Red Sox manager John Farrell credited Mejia for getting Boston’s batters to chase pitches, which kept it from getting anything going on offense. Red Sox Notes: Lack Of Run Support Troubling Rick Porcello This Season
Aside from being dominant on the mound, Rick Porcello’s march to the 2016 American League Cy Young Award was assisted by the Boston Red Sox bats. The right-hander received an outpouring of run support in nearly every start last season, which helped him amass a 22-4 record en route to baseball’s highest pitching honor. It’s been a much different tale of the tape this season, though, as the Red Sox offense, for whatever reason, has been quiet on nights Porcello takes the hill. Wednesday’s outing was no different, as Boston was defeated 4-1 by the Minnesota Twins, marking Porcello’s 10th loss of the 2017 campaign. To be clear, Porcello ha... NESN.com
Red Sox Wrap: Boston Crushes Twins 9-2 In Rainy Night At Fenway Park
Share this: If the Minnesota Twins could have forfeited Tuesday night’s game at Fenway Park early, they might have opted to fight another day. Due to two rain delays, the Twins got into their bullpen in the third inning, and the Boston Red Sox routed them 9-2 in a game that saw Boston take over first place in the American League East. Drew Pomeranz was able to survive the 90-minute delay following the second inning and turned in a strong five-inning start to give the Red Sox’s bullpen a bit of a reprieve. Boston’s offense, meanwhile, crushed the Twins’ pitching staff, tallying nine runs on 10 hits, including home runs by Christian Vazquez and Chris Young. The Red Sox improved to 43-34 with the win,
Chris Sale Believes Sandy Leon Is Big Reason For His Success With Red Sox
Share this: Chris Sale has been everything the Boston Red Sox could have hoped for when they acquired him from the Chicago White Sox in December. But the ace is quick to give all the credit to those around him, especially his battery mate, Sandy Leon. Sale was solid Monday in Boston’s 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, allowing one run on four hits while striking out nine over 6 1/3 innings of work. After the win, Sale gave credit to the Red Sox’s bullpen, which tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of the left-hander, and Leon, who Sale claims knows him better than he knows himself. To hear Sale discuss his outing, the bullpen and Leon, check out the
Doug Fister Believes Loss To Angels Is ‘On Him’ Despite Strong Red Sox Debut
Share this: Doug Fister hadn’t made a start in the big leagues during the 2017 Major League Baseball season until he toed the rubber Sunday at Fenway Park. Fister had a strong debut for the Boston Red Sox, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking three in six-plus innings during the Red Sox’s 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. After the game, Fister was pleased with how he felt but knows he has to execute better when he gets into a jam.
