If you’re familiar with Gus Johnson, then you know he frequently gives ecstatic, over-the-top calls during basketball games. He took things to another level, however, during Sunday’s NBA playoffs game between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks. During the closing moments of Game 1 at TD Garden, Bucks forward Khris Middleton drained buzzer-beating 3-pointer near halfcourt to send the game to overtime. And Johnson, who does broadcast work for FOX Sports Wisconsin, nearly suffered an emotional meltdown on the play. Could Isaiah Thomas Return To Celtics In Free Agency? Star Doesn’t Rule It Out
Isaiah Thomas had his best NBA seasons in Boston as a member of the Celtics. And even though he harbored some hard feelings toward the franchise after they traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving last offseason, the electric guard is open to wearing the green and white again. Thomas, who was traded from the Cavs to the Los Angeles Lakers at the NBA trade deadline, held a question and answer session on Twitter on Sunday. When he was asked about returning to Celtics as a free agent this summer, he didn’t shut the idea down. Now that would be something. Thomas averaged 28.9 points for the C’s last season while leading
Celtics Notes: Boston-Houston Would Be Must-See NBA Finals Matchup
They say styles make fights, and the two games between the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets have been nothing short of box office material. And while an NBA Finals matchup might not be likely, with the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers lurking, it would be nothing short must-see TV. The Celtics took Round 1 after overcoming a 26-point deficit thanks to a couple late miscues from James Harden, but the Rockets delivered some payback Saturday night at Toyota Center. The game was a seesaw affair, with neither team leading by more than eight at any point in the contest. Boston held the upper hand for most of the second half, l... NESN.com
Celtics Notes: Boston Taking Care Of Business Upon Return From Break
There are no two ways around it: the Boston Celtics were limping into the NBA All-Star break. The Celtics dropped three straight games leading into the star-studded spectacle in Los Angeles, a product of the sluggish play Boston demonstrated in the first few weeks of February. But it’s safe to say the C’s made the most of their eight days off. The Celtics returned from the All-Star break with back-to-back road victories over the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks, and Monday, the green extended its win streak to three by topping the Memphis Grizzlies 109-98 at TD Garden. The schedule makers clearly lent the Celtics a hand in their time o... NESN.com
Celtics Notes: Boston Gets Off To Good Start Following All-Star Break
Time can heal, and it appears to have done that for the Boston Celtics. At least it did on Friday night. The Celtics used a big second quarter and a fourth-quarter surge to create some separation between themselves and the Detroit Pistons, ultimately winning Friday’s game at Little Caesars Arena 110-98. With the win, Boston snapped its three-game losing streak that they took into the All-Star break, and the victory certainly felt like a refreshing change of pace after the ugly skid. But in many ways, Friday’s win certainly felt like a proverbial turning of the page given the things that went right that previously had been going wro... NESN.com
Marcus Smart Takes Blame For Celtics’ Recent Woes, Says Team Lacks ‘Effort’
Marcus Smart can’t help the Boston Celtics on the court right now, but he’s doing his best to remain accountable off it. The Celtics guard, who’s been sidelined since Jan. 24 after injuring his hand in a losing battle with a picture frame, took part of the blame for Boston’s recent rough patch in his second public comments since the incident. “I’ve been on myself pretty bad,” Smart told The Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett on Wednesday night, “especially when I have to just sit back there and watch those guys struggle, and there’s nothing I can do. But we’ve got the break coming up. We’ve got to come back and be ready.”
Celtics Wrap: Boston Drops Third Straight, Fall To Clippers 129-119
The Boston Celtics will be heading into the All-Star break with a bad taste in their mouth. The C’s dropped their third straight game as they fell to the visiting Los Angeles Clippers 129-119 at TD Garden on Wednesday night. Kyrie Irving scored a game-high 33 points and was one of six Celtics in double figures. DeAndre Jordan was one of seven Clippers that scored in double digits, posting a career- and team-high 30 points. The Celtics fall to 40-19 with the loss, while the Clippers climb to 30-26.
