Mookie Betts Explains What Happened On Wild Catch-Turned-Double Play

Share this: Mookie Betts made one of the weirder plays of the season Tuesday night in the Bronx. It was also one of the most impressive. The Boston Red Sox’s right fielder lost a liner off the bat of Chase Headley in the Yankee Stadium lights and went into his slide a bit prematurely. He somehow managed to reach across and over his body and make the catch anyway before jumping up and quickly doubling off Starlin Castro at first base. It wasn’t enough to win the game, though, as the Red Sox had their 11-game winning streak snapped in a 6-4 loss to the New York Yankees. Still, it was pretty impressive nonetheless. Check out Betts’ explanation for the play in the video

Why The Red Sox Probably Chose To Keep Joe Kelly In Triple-A All Season

Share this: The Boston Red Sox could use a hard-throwing reliever for the late innings to help bridge the gap to All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel. Joe Kelly might just be that guy. The 28-year-old started the season in Boston’s rotation, make two horrid starts before getting injured in his third, hitting the disabled list, and returning for three more starts, the latter two of which were also horrid. Then Kelly disappeared, demoted to the minors for nearly two weeks before popping up for a few days at the end of July. Despite performing well in three relief outings then, he was sent back down to Triple-A Pawtucket until September call-ups. Since his return, he’s pitched two scoreless eighth innings, and in five outings as

How Has Mookie Betts Transformed Into An MVP Candidate? Chili Davis Explains

Share this: When Mookie Betts left the batting cage Friday afternoon, he was sure it wasn’t going to be a good night at the plate, according to Boston Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis. Hours later following a 5-for-5 performance, we all had a friendly reminder of why Betts has catapulted himself into the forefront of the conversation to win the American League MVP award. As Davis explains to NESN’s Guerin Austin, as seen in the video from “Red Sox First Pitch” above, baseball is a game with highs and lows, but Betts is so successful because he never lets those lows drop too far or out of control. Alain Vigneault Fires Back At Claude Julien: He ‘Needs To Check His Eyesight’

Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien got a little testy Friday after forward Brad Marchand received a questionable goaltender interference penalty against the New York Rangers, and Alain Vigneault is firing back. Julien took issue with what he believed was “acting” on goalie Henrik Lundqvist’s part after Marchand made contact with him on his way by the net, but the Rangers coach obviously did not agree. “The way Hank conducts himself on the ice, away from the rink, off the ice, the example that he sets … Who would you rather have as a son: Henrik or Brad Marchand?” Vigneault said Saturday, per CBSSports.com. “I mean, for him to say things...
