Red Sox Notes: Rick Porcello OK After Near-Collision With Tigers Coach
The Boston Red Sox have enough ailing players to fill an infirmary ward, and Rick Porcello nearly joined the walking wounded Sunday. The Red Sox starter had just allowed his third run of the afternoon in the fourth inning when he nearly collided with Detroit Tigers third base coach Dave Clark while running behind the base to back up a potential throw to third. Porcello landed awkwardly and came up holding his left leg in a limp. (Click on the photo below to see a video of the play.)
Claude Julien Hired As Canadiens Head Coach; Michel Therrien Fired
Claude Julien is heading back to Montreal. One week after Julien was fired by the Boston Bruins, the Montreal Canadiens announced Tuesday that they fired Michel Therrien and made Julien their new head coach. “I would like to sincerely thank Michel for his relentless work with the Montreal Canadiens over his eight seasons behind the bench, including the last five seasons when we worked together,” Bergevin said in a press release, via NBCSports.com. “The decision to remove Michel from his coaching duties was a difficult one because I have lots of respect for him. “I came to the conclusion that our team needed a new energy, a new voice... Bill Belichick’s Girlfriend, Linda Holliday, Shows Post-Super Bowl Instagram Lov…
Share this: Linda Holliday, like most New England Patriots fans, is extremely proud of her man, Bill Belichick. Holliday, who’s been dating the Patriots head coach for several years, took to Instagram on Tuesday to show some love for the guy she considers her “hero.” The Patriots, of course, defeated the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in Super Bowl LI, giving Belichick seven Super Bowl rings, including five as head coach of New England. Yep. That’s something to be proud of. Thumbnail photo via Robert Deutsch/USA TODAY Sports Images More Stories Source link
Jim Caldwell To Return As Lions Coach In 2017 Regardless Of Their Playoff Fate
Jim Caldwell will have some peace of mind as he leads the Detroit Lions into the NFL playoffs. The Lions announced Wednesday on their website that Caldwell will return as head coach in 2017. Detroit will visit the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday in an NFC Wild Card Game, but the outcome of the contest won’t determining Caldwell’s future with the Lions. His 27-21 record during his three-year tenure has convinced the club he is the right man for the job. The Caldwell news follows Detroit’s late-season slide from the top of the NFC North division. The Lions lost their last three games of the regular season to finish at 9-7 and allow the Green Bay
Texans Owner Backs ‘Gutsy’ Call To Bench Brock Osweiler For Tom Savage
Share this: A quarterback change won’t generate controversy in the owner’s box at NRG Stadium. Houston Texans owner Bob McNair praised head coach Bill O’Brien on Sunday for benching struggling quarterback Brock Osweiler, according to The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. Backup Tom Savage led the Texans to a comeback 21-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and McNair said the quarterback switch was the right move. “I’m just glad I wasn’t the one that had to make that decision,” McNair said. “I mean, that was a gutsy call. Give coach credit, he made a change and it was for the good of the team. We benefited from it. Now we have three good quarterbacks and we are proud of all of them.” McNair’s Texans gave Osweiler
Bears’ John Fox, Like All Of Us, Enjoys Saying Jim Bob Cooter’s Name
Share this: The NFL season is long and grueling, so sometimes it’s important to step back and appreciate the little things. Chicago Bears coach John Fox apparently got that message. In a conference call Thursday with Detroit reporters ahead of his team’s matchup with the Lions, Fox admitted to a guilty pleasure: He likes saying the name of Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. “I love the name,” Fox said, via the Detroit Free Press. “He and (Minnesota Vikings cornerback) Captain Munnerlyn. I recruited Captain way back when I was in Carolina. Those two are right up there (as the best names in sports), player and coach. But I love saying Jim Bob’s name.” We can confirm Jim Bob Cooter’s name is, in fact, fun to
