The Boston Bruins made a coaching change last season, replacing longtime bench boss Claude Julien with Bruce Cassidy. The B’s then made a late-season push and secured a playoff spot with Cassidy at the helm, and that experience should help both him and the team Thursday when they begin training camp. Check out Andy Brickley’s thoughts on Cassidy’s first camp as B’s coach in the “NESN Sports Today” video above, presented by People’s United Bank. ... NESN.com

Mike Brown’s NBA Title With Warriors Came At Cavs’ Expense (Literally)
Share this: At this time last year, Mike Brown was out of an NBA job. Now — well, let’s just say he’s in a much more enviable situation. The Warriors assistant coach earned himself a ring Monday night when Golden State dispatched the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The victory was especially sweet for Brown, considering the Cavs fired him twice from two separate head coaching jobs in 2010 and 2014. But it gets even better. When Cleveland signed him a second time in April 2013, Brown inked a five-year contract reportedly worth $20 million, part of which was guaranteed. And when he was fired a year later, a provision in his contract ensured he’d still receive that money in payments
NBA Rumors: Steve Kerr Could Return To Coach Warriors In NBA Finals
Share this: The Golden State Warriors could have a familiar face return to their sideline for Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sources tell ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne that Steve Kerr could return from his leave of absence amid health concerns to coach the Warriors on Thursday night. Kerr has discussed the possibility of returning with Mike Brown, who’s coached Golden State in his absence. And Brown is encouraging the move. “He’s talked about possibly coaching Game 1,” Brown told ESPN’s Michael Wilbon. “And I even tried to tell him, ‘Steve, you should do it … and if you don’t feel like you’re OK, half through the game, just go back in the back.” Kerr has been out of action since Game
NFL Rumors: Patriots Hiring Another Coach With Familiar Connection
Share this: The New England Patriots reportedly are kind of going back to the John Carroll University well for their latest coaching hire. The Patriots are expected to hire UT-Chattanooga outside linebackers coach DeMarcus Covington, FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman reported Monday. UT-Chattanooga’s head coach, Tom Arth, was the head coach at John Carroll from 2013 to 2016. Arth played quarterback at John Carroll from 1999 to 2002. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, director of player personnel Nick Caserio, assistant quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinksi, director of pro personnel Dave Ziegler, coaching assistant Nick Caley, pro scout Frank Ross and scouting assistant D.J. Debick all graduated from John Carroll. It’s unknown what role Covington will fill for the Patriots, but it’s likely he’ll begin his NFL career
Browns First-Round Pick Shares Embarrassing Moment With Joe Thomas
Share this: David Njoku was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 29 pick just a few weeks ago, so it would be understandable if he hasn’t been familiarized with all of his teammates yet. But one would think he’d know who Joe Tomas is. The seven-time All-Pro tackle has been one of the NFL’s best offensive lineman for nearly a decade and is one of the faces of the franchise. Njoku, however, clearly wasn’t aware of this. .@David_Njoku80 I told him I'm a player/coach. Mostly I'll be coaching, but you will see me playing on sundays. 😂 — Joe Thomas (@joethomas73) May 12, 2017 Given they’ll be sharing a huddle in the upcoming season, we have a feeling Njoku and Thomas will get to know
Brad Stevens Nixes Indiana Rumors, Adamant About Staying In Boston
Share this: Brad Stevens once coached college basketball in the state of Indiana, but the Boston Celtics head coach has no plans of returning to that world. After Indiana parted ways with Tom Crean as its head coach, many expected Stevens — an Indiana native — would be in the running to be the next Hoosiers coach. Stevens, however, has no inclination to leave his current job, as he shared with reporters Friday night. “I don’t speak to the rumor mill or anything else,” he told reporters. “I’ve made it pretty clear I’m going to be here (Boston). I’ve been asked about that quite a bit. And I’ll keep saying the same thing. I’m going to be here until the Celtics decide they

The Crimson Tide announced the hiring Monday afternoon. Daboll also will serve as Alabama’s quarterbacks coach. Daboll spent 10 of the last 16 seasons with the Patriots, most recently coaching the team’s tight ends from 2014 through 2016. He was a part of all five of New England’s Super Bowl title-winning teams and was viewed as the likely successor to Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. The 41-year-old has not coached at the college level since 1999, when he finished up a two-year stint as a Michigan State graduate assistant
