Doctor accused of molesting Olympic gymnasts expected to cha…

LANSING, Mich. — A former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor accused of molesting girls under the guise of medical treatment at his home, a campus clinic and a youth gymnastics club is expected to change his not-guilty pleas in a bid to close the state’s criminal cases against him. Online court records show change-of-plea hearings for 54-year-old Dr. Larry Nassar are scheduled for Nov. 22 and Nov. 29 in two Michigan counties. Jury selection was to begin in one courthouse on Dec. 4. A spokeswoman for state Attorney General Bill Schuette declined to comment, citing a gag order. A message was left Wednesday for one of Nassar’s defense lawyers. In February, the state charged Nassar with 22 counts of first-degree criminal

Margaret Court Blames America For Tennis World’s Backlash To Anti-LGBT Comments

One of tennis’ four Grand Slams currently is taking place in France, but the main topic in the sport remains the anti-LGBT comments made by Margaret Court. The Australian tennis legend’s list of supporters is dwindling after she made multiple controversial comments about the LGBT community, including that “tennis is full of lesbians,” in an interview with Vision Christian Radio, via The Guardian. Her anti-LGBT comments — which also included her saying “transgender individuals are ‘influenced by the devil,'” according to Yahoo! Sports — along with her stance against gay marriage, have led multiple current and former tennis stars to cri... NESN.com

Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Underwent Spinal Cord Leak Procedure

Share this: The Golden State Warriors might not see head coach Steve Kerr on their sideline for some time. Kerr is out indefinitely as he deals with complications from a back surgery that took place two years ago, and the Warriors coach had a procedure to drain his spine in the hope of alleviating the pain that has sidelined him since Game 3 of the Warriors’ first-round NBA playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN. Warriors owner Joe Lacob detailed Kerr’s health issues in an interview with Bloomberg Radio on Friday. “It’s very unfortunate what’s happening here, ” Lacob said, as transcribed by The Mercury News’ Anthony Salter. “He had a back surgery. Relatively common procedure almost two years ago now. And had

Timberwolves-Blazers Game Postponed Due To Slippery Court Conditions

Share this: The Minnesota Timberwolves and Portland Trail Blazers were supposed to play an important game Monday night as the two clubs try to climb into the Western Conference playoff picture. That game, however, will have to be played at another time as the game was postponed due to slippery court conditions. The slippery conditions were caused by condensation from a sheet of ice underneath the court. The ice sheet was placed there to accommodate a Disney On Ice performance this past weekend, as well as the upcoming National Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament. And the NCHC had some fun with the mishap via their Twitter account. The Blazers came into the game just 1.5 games back of the Denver Nuggets for the eighth seed in the

Taj Gibson Throws Prayer Mile High From Other End Of Court, Somehow Drains Shot

We tend to call way too many sports plays “incredible”, but we really can’t think of anything else to say about what the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Taj Gibson did at the halftime buzzer Thursday night. The Portland Trail Blazers went for the old lob pass off an inbounds play to try to get one last shot off before the half, but the ball ended up in Gibson’s hands instead. Since there were two seconds remaining, Gibson launched a shot of his own, probably just for the heck of it. But his mile-high heave turned into one of the luckiest shots you’ll ever see. Oh. My. Goodness. Thumbnail photo via Mark D. Smith/USA TODAY

Andrew Bogut Could See Himself Playing For Celtics But Not This Year

Share this: Andrew Bogut might have spurned the Boston Celtics by committing to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, but the 12-year NBA veteran hopes that the C’s will try again when he hits the free agent market this summer. According to The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the Celtics made a very strong impression on Bogut, especially head coach Brad Stevens and general manager Danny Ainge. And, according to Himmelsbach, the Australian big man could see himself suiting up for the Celtics next season. “I just want to want to stress how close it was, because Brad and Danny did a hell of a job with this thing,” Bogut’s agent David Bauman told Himmelsbach. “Andrew got to know Brad and Danny a

Potential Aaron Hernandez Trial Juror Wears Patriots Hat In Court, Dismissed For Obvious Reason

One New England Patriots fan didn’t bother pretending to be impartial in Aaron Hernandez’s looming double-murder trial. A potential juror in Hernandez’s trial wore a New England Patriots hat to Suffolk Superior Court on Tuesday, according to The Boston Herald’s Laurel J. Sweet. Court officers made him take off the hat. Needless to say, he was among the 64 people who were dismissed from the jury pool. That leaves 119 potential jurors remaining in the pool, with another 200 expected to arrive for vetting Wednesday. Hernandez, a former Patriots tight end, is accused of shooting Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira to death o... NESN.com
