Twins Releasing David Ortiz ‘Boston’s Gain’: ‘It Was A Mistake,’ GM Says

It might have been the single greatest stroke of luck in Boston sports history. For Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan, however, releasing David Ortiz 14 years ago is a nightmare he’s embracing. “There’s no hiding that one,” Ryan told Twins.com’s Rhett Bollinger recently. “You can put that one in there and lock it down. I’m not running from it. I’m proud of what he’s done. Obviously, it was a mistake. The guy has been a great representation of the Boston Red Sox and Major League Baseball for a long time. And it’s Boston’s gain and Minnesota’s loss. And I take full responsibility.” Though Ortiz’s struggles throu...

Bill Belichick Taunts Colts-Fan David Letterman: ‘It Was Only A 38-Point Win’

Bill Belichick might have smiled more in his appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” than in all of 2014 combined. The New England Patriots head coach was funny and laid back in his talk show appearance, and some of his best moments came when he was taunting Letterman, a huge Indianapolis Colts fan. “You pretty much extinguished my Colts,” Letterman said. “How do you feel about that?” “Well, it was only a 38-point win,” Belichick said smiling about the Patriots’ 45-7 AFC Championship Game win. When the subject turned to running back LeGarrette Blount, Belichick got another dig in. “He had a good gam...

Jared Knight Set to Skate With David Krejci, Milan Lucic on First Line for Bruins’ Home Preseason Opener

BOSTON -- The Bruins will play their first game on TD Garden ice this season on Friday night, and captain Zdeno Chara will be in the lineup for the preseason home opener against the New York Islanders. Chara had a scare earlier in the week when he was hit on the inside of the left leg with a shot during practice on Monday. He did not play in Tuesday's Black and White Game in Providence, R.I., or the club's first preseason game in Ottawa on Wednesday, but he avoided serious injury and has been cleared to play on Friday."Yeah, I'm very glad that it wasn't [serious]," Chara said after Friday's morning skate at the Garden.
