The B’s put an end to the Flames’ 10-game winning streak with an impressive 5-2 road victory. Calgary jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the contest, but Boston responded with an offensive outburst. Head coach Bruce Cassidy was impressed with his team’s resiliency, especially David Backes. The Bruins winger had to be assisted off the ice after crashing head-first into the boards late in the first period, but would later return in the second frame and scored a huge goal to give the B’s a 3-2 lead. After only recording two hits Friday in a 3-2 loss to the New York Mets, the Red Sox tallied 13 in an 8-7 win over the Twins at JetBlue Park. There were regrets aplenty among the UEFA Europa League contenders at the weekend as Roma and Fenerbahçe lost ground in their domestic title hunts and Anderlecht spurned the chance to go top in Belgium. Roma's pursuit of Juventus took a hit as the Giallorossi suffered a surprise 3-2 loss at Sampdoria after taking an early lead through Bruno Peres. The result left the capital side four points adrift of Juve having played one game more, while there were goals too as fellow last-32 hopefuls Fiorentina drew 3-3 at home with Genoa.
