By Gerald Imray AP Sports Writer RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Ashton Eaton retained his title as the best all-around athlete in the world by tying the decathlon Olympic record and, within minutes, had stepped back for track and field’s ultimate superstar to take center stage again. What more could the now two-time Olympic champion Eaton do Thursday night to get just a little sliver of the limelight that beams down so brightly on Usain Bolt? Not much. “I had the pleasure of being in the same era as Usain Bolt,” Eaton said. “I mean, the guy’s last name is Bolt, he’s the fastest man ever, you can’t write a story like that.” You can try. For his own tale, Eaton made it back-to-back Olympic and world

Simone Biles wins gold on the vault
By Will Graves AP Sports Writer RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Simone Biles spent Sunday morning in the warm-up gym thinking not of history but perfection. When it didn’t happen — and really, it never does in gymnastics anymore — the 19-year-old star settled for a pretty sweet consolation prize: a third gold medal in Rio. Twisting and flipping through the air with explosive precision, Biles easily captured gold in the women’s vault final on Sunday. Her two-vault average of 15.966 was more than .7 better than silver medalist Maria Paseka of Russia and bronze medalist Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland. The margin between first and second was greater than second and eighth, a symbol of the canyon Biles created between herself and her peers. Biles’
Kevin Love Pulls A Stone Cold Steve Austin After Cavs’ NBA Finals Win
The Cleveland Cavaliers hit the Golden State Warriors with a Stone Cold Stunner on Sunday night in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and Kevin Love celebrated rather appropriately. The Cavaliers defeated the Warriors 93-89 to give the city of Cleveland its first major sports championship since 1964. Love, who scored nine points and added 14 rebounds while also making a huge defensive stop on Stephen Curry late in the fourth quarter, marked the occasion by tossing on an “Austin 3:16” shirt and channeling his inner Stone Cold Steve Austin. Love pounded a couple of beers amid the Cavs’ locker room celebration. He ended up getting more beer on his shirt and
Oakland Gets Hilarious Wikipedia Makeover After Cavaliers’ NBA Finals Win
Oakland was supposed to be the site of another NBA championship celebration for the Golden State Warriors on Monday, but mayor LeBron James and state senator Kyrie Irving had different plans. Wait, what? No, James and Irving didn’t suddenly make career switches to California politics, but their historic performance in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 112-97 win inspired one creative person to make a few changes to Oakland’s Wikipedia page. We can only imagine what this page will look like if the Cavs come back from a three-games-to-one deficit to win the title. Thumbnail photo via Cary Edmondson/USA TODAY Sports Images
Steph Curry Can’t Contain Excitement As Warriors Win NBA Finals Game 2
If MVP awards were given out after two games of a series, Draymond Green would be sporting some new hardware. Fake awards can be given out whenever we want, though, which means Stephen Curry officially is the Most Entertaining Bench Reactor of the NBA Finals. Green was an unstoppable force for the Golden State Warriors, who blew out the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-77 in Game 2. He finished with a game-high 28 points, including five 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds and five assists. But it was that final 3-pointer, which came off the dribble, that had Curry — owner of multiple NBA 3-point shooting records — in shambles on the bench.
