Alan Brogan - The Dublin forward is hotly tipped to be named player of the year The GAA and the GPA have named 45 players as nominees for the 2011 GAA GPA All-Star Football Awards sponsored by Opel. The county-by-county breakdown for nominees is as follows: Dublin 12, Kerry nine, Donegal seven, Mayo five, Kildare five, Cork three, Tyrone two, Wexford one and Derry one. The final team of 15 players will be presented at a banquet event at the Convention Centre, Dublin, on Friday 21 October. The full list of nominees is listed below. West Football All-Stars Win Again
In the 63rd Annual East-West Senior All-Star Football game the West defeated the East 19-7 on Wednesday at Jamieson Stadium at Grimsley High School in Greensboro. The West leads the all-time series 37-25 with one tie, won its second consecutive game against the East. John Knox II from Salisbury ran for 111 yards and scored on a 50-yard pass play. West Defensive lineman Stephen Burns from Alexander Central sacked the East quarterback on the very first play of the game. The West had three players from the high country, Burns, Dustin Anderson from Asheville High School and DJ Mouzon from Hickory. And head coach Tom Harper of Alexander Central was an assistant for the West.
